A £45 rebuilt head?

If it sounds too good to be true...

Haha that was just the current bid mind. I doubt it'll go for that! If it does look like it'll go for that I'll put in a bid!

And then matching cams, valves and buckets?  Or does it come with all that?

So at the end of today, here is the current state of play:
- In theory everything electrical is unplugged apart from a cable going to the alternator which I will try and get to as I lower the engine.
- driveshafts are out
- all fluids are drained (only got 5l of coolant out so far...)
- and I'm trying to figure out Carolyn's modification idea to the clutch slave thing I just don't know how far to cut.
- soon as it's done I will then be able to release the engine mounts and lower it down.

the whole of today would not have been possible without Mike's help!  he's being absolute champion and legend driving an hour and a half to get to me I really really appreciate it!

the next full day I get to work at the car will be Monday or Tuesday next week.

Until then it'll just be evenings.

Need to build a shopping list of stuff to order... So far I'll need:
- new exhaust manifold studs and nuts
- cat donut gaskets
- might need new 3 amigos as one of them stayed behind... I only got the nut off.
- do I need new gasket/ seals for the drive shafts?

Yes on the last one. Especially the nearside seal

jvanzyl

Right thank you.
When your say "seal" do you mean that spring like thing?

New drive shaft seals (Nearside: 90311-35064, Offside: 90311-35065). Optional but best replaced. Approx 20 quid for both

Just got the quote from Toyota for the parts... Ouch..http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5b7fdd7b1efba/doc09903820180824102316.pdf

Forgot to order Toyota parts! :-(
Will try and call up in the morning...

Lessons learnt so far:
Wiring harness should come out WITH the engine... Unplugging whilst in the engine bay is in the words of Carolyn "Daft"...

Obviously ground cables should be detached, but that's it.

ALWAYS wear safety glasses. I just had a very uncomfortable night due to a scratched eye as some bit of car/dirt landed in it when I was struggling to detach the cables that I shouldn't have been... Anyway.. Could have been worse.

This evening's progress has been that I've managed to do Carolyn's mod on the slave cylinder thingy.. (I bought a cutting disc Carolyn!)

I'm now going to try and make my engine dolly and THEN drop the engine.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Doh. Times like that you need a claiming voice haha. I got my gdads old wardrobe on wheels. Knocked the sides off and walla a dolley, you can re force the base but fundamental it does the job.

Late last night I'd pulled through the loom out to the engine side, and then tackled the big coolant pipe that sits behind the engine.
Apparently good practice is to disconnect from the car side rather than the engine as otherwise it's a pain to reattach..
And just as I'm writing this I'm wondering if I've got this the right way round....err... Oh well. I was all have for a bunch of coolant coming out of it, but for some reason it didn't.... So there's still a fair bit of it some where!

Then finally I worked on the engine dolly which had now got the basic frame and wheels attached, all I've got to do is add the extra height on the gearbox side of the sump to hold it level...

Carolyn

Don't forget the dolly has to support engine and gearbox.

Yeah.... it'll either work or if won't!
I'll just have to Jack it back up and re- engineer it..

Anyway!
Time to undo somene engine mounts!

I've got it supported by the Jack and the engine crane...
