Took the centre bolt out of the rear mount, access was nice and easy... Then thought that I should take the mount off the rear subframe... But then realised that I should just crack on and take the subframe off...

I just have one snag- I'm trying to leave the arms attached to the subframe, and that means undoing at the wheels. However I can't get the control arm off the hub, I don't know if it's because I have the hub supported on a stand or if it's really tight....
Is there a technique to it? I don't want to destroy the rubber...

Finally- lessons learnt.
GET A FLOOR CREEPER! my word it made working tonight so much nicer....

The jackstands under the hubs not the best location.

Put the here:  (and then get at the bolts with your breaker bar.

Also - don't forget to disconnect the ABS wires.  Connectors behind where the lighst were.   Disconnect, pull through and take off the bracket holding the wire to the subframe.

Yeah bit of a problem the ABS sensors...
Undid the 10mm, and it's totally seized in there... The plastic retainer actually split as I tried to lift it out..
Any suggestions?

Are you trying to remove it from the hub John?

jvanzyl

Yup, undid the 10mm, then tried to prise it upwards with a flat head screwdriver...

I've undone the bolt that holds the abs cable to the body so it's got some play..
Is it essential to disconnect?

Don't try to remove it from the hub -you'll only destroy it.  (£50 a pop!!).

Just disconnect it and tie the lead up so you don't damage the wiring and plug.

I made that mistake when I did mine in 2016. The banging about also broke the reluctor ring[emoji22]

Ok. Well I was gently trying to tap a flat head under the plastic thing when it split... So I'm hoping the sensor is fine.

Abs wires disconnected and tucked away, brakes all removed...

New point of frustration is this arm which I cannot seem to pry away from the hub...I can only seem to get it a mm or two along!! [emoji19]

Well.... It's down!
Wasn't the smoothest of downward journeys.. Gear cables got caught up, the occasional scraping sound was heard and my ability to carefully turn the release valve on the crane is somewhat lacking!

Anyway... It's down and tomorrow morning I'll try and get it out and then start taking bit off it!

One thing I've found and I don't know if others feel the same way- it's nice doing all this, but I can't help feel that it'd be a lot more fun with someone else! I shall have to find ways of getting the wife involved....

If you do it all yourself, you don't have to share the glory.

GazMav

How come you took the subframe off?
Mini pallet with 4 caster wheels. Jack underneath to support engine and use crane to life car (remove front bumper).
