I am planning to wire brush and paint my subframe this winter.  You've started something here, looks like hammered blue is the new grey!
LOL... cheers man.
I'm not sure about the heat capabilities of the blue paint... For the subframe I'd want to make sure it could take a lot of heat otherwise you'll get bubbling and then rust within a year or two of doing it [emoji848]

I actually finished off the subframe with the same silver paint I did the engine with.

Everyone knows brakes have to be red. It makes them lighter and faster.

On cars that are slower coloured cars definitely.... [emoji12]

I used blue, brush on caliper paint on my calipers and blue, spray on on my top heat shield. The spray on slightly discolours straight away and takes a while for the burning paint smell to stop.
I reckon if you used the brush on caliper paint on your subframe you'd be laughing.

60% of the time it works everytime...

So under the guise of setting up a rat trap I managed to get some more painting done [emoji56] the kurust had dried nicely

So I applied some of the hammered blue...

I think the bow ties have come out decently as well..

That's a thick layer of paint on those sliding surfaces J.
When try, see how easy a pad slips in between (bearing in mind space for the clips)

Yeah will do... I did wire wheel it right back to bare metal to start with, and I've ordered new clips. So I'll see if I need to wear down any of the gaps etc... But I'm hopefully not going to need to!

Oh wait if you're talking about the actual slides I'm going to clean those off! No worries!

So this evenings progress was to fit the manifold heatshield and engine cover and the crash bar.
Then I did a second layer of paint on the brake carriers and I painted the exhaust heatshield.

Next time I'll hopefully be able to fit the brakes and do the suspension related stuff...

Oh yes and I must torque up the crash bar..

Haha. She'll be running beautifully once she's back on the road though. Totally worth it.

Evening all,
So I managed to brave the freezing shed for a bit to work on the brakes.
I fitted the new carrier clips, and scraped away the excess paint so they'd sit nicely..

Next time I'm turning the heater on!

So tonight I managed to finish fitting the rear right brake caliper, and I think I fitted the hand brake bow tie thing correctly.... Anyone care to comment on the routing of the cable?

It seems like I'm doing a bit of one step forward then a couple of steps back!

Managed to get the rear left brake all done up, then started on the rear suspension arms only to find that the front rear trailing arm wouldnt quite meet up!.. flipping disc brake is in the way preventing me from shifting it that last cm forward to get the bolt through it! bah...

So.. that means the next steps are - undo the brake again etc.. THEN to suspension arms ... THEN do brake!

Carolyn

Once the disc is off, try jacking the hub up a bit - helps getting the bolt in.

Thanks! I shall do...I really want a jack that basically defies physics and moves stuff sideways without destabilising the car!

Carolyn

You'll be surprised how much closer it brings the two together.  Then a judicious 'shove' with the bottom of your foot for the final bit... done it many times.

What a pillava...
Managed to get a screw driver in to hold it, then tapped the bolt in to take it's place..

But that was nothing compared to trying to get the brake caliper to shift along! Turns out I'd packed too much grease into the pin housing and actually popped the cap off of the other side when I forced it down!

I've put the cap back on (didn't know it came off!) So now the RL brake is DONE... still need to do the struts and ARB + drop link

Carolyn

That 'cap' doesn't come off - or it shouldn't. It's all one piece with the rest of the rubber on that pin.

Anyway well done!!  Good progress. ;D
