Will a new clutch be on your list John?
Don't think so... Last we checked 8 miles ago it was fine!

Oh yes!
Forgot about those..
How are you doing for space? I can trailer mine up and swap out your blue and store that round mine till my silver is done if it helps?

Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk

There's enough space.  Blue is under the tent, but can be moved under power.  Probably. we'll move blue and put yours there until we're ready to put it on the lift.  Blue won't block the works up if I want to use the lift.

Get it up here and we'll sort it.

Slow down!  All will be good.

ah yes I forgot you sold the Cobra..

OK so current list:
To buy:
- 1 X new oil filter - think I actually might have this already as I was prepared for the last engine
- 5L 5-30 oil - think I actually might have this already as I was prepared for the last engine
- bunch of containers to catch gearbox oil, and coolant so it can be reused..
- Driveshaft gaiters

I can totally run the new engine on the existing exhaust manifold and cat, but in the event it's possible to put in the PPE then I'll need:
- Gaskets for exhaust manifold ( TBD)
- 3x post cat O2 sensors (TBD)

To do:
Take battery out and leave it on charge
Put in wiring for oil pressure gauge
Get date booked for engine swap
Get car insurance done
Get trailer booked for this
swap engine
bleed the brakes!
MOT
Tax
Alignment

I took the liberty of cleaning and lubing the throttle body and idle air control.

As Pat will tell you, they don't like sitting around unused.

Good job I did, they needed it.

Better than doing it once the engine is in.

Thank you Carolyn![emoji16]
I've booked the trailer for Wednesday next week. Planning on being up with you the following weekend... Does that work for you?
@jonbill are you available as well?
As you say we should take our time so happy to stretch it out if needed...

So that's the trick. Get an engine, deposit if at Carolyn's, then wait long enough for her to have taken the liberties to rebuild it bit by bit
...neutiquam erro.

That will be fine, so long as it's cool with John.  I'll take the clutch and flywheel of it then?

Cool ok.
Yeah I suppose- thank you!, very happy to do it when I get up the? Have you got it on the engine stand already?! Silly question I guess!

Carolyn

No it's securely strapped to one of my wheel dollies, so it's easy to move and will be ready for the flywheel, clutch and gearbox to be mounted.

It doesn't need to be opened up, so there's no reason to put it on the stand.

I'm just trying to cut down on the amount of work we have to do on the weekend.

Started prepping everything for the next swap..
Battery out
Airbox and inlet piping out
Fuel injectors out (with the little rubber o rings on the bottom)
Can't remember how the fuel rail disconnects though??
Heatshield out
5 nuts from top of exhaust manifold all loosened

I'll need to Jack the car up to get the manifold and cat out next...
Rear bin didn't get put back in after last time
CV joint gaiters arrived so there the box

Other than that I'm just trying to add number labels where appropriate so things can be quickly disconnected and reconnect when needed..

Got my oil and filter

Still need to find the ARP lubricant and pack the thread lock..
Oh and put the battery on charge.. And take out the spark plugs..

OK So first task was to find the ARP bolt lubricant... erm... I think this sachet is it? Can anyone verify that this is the same type of sachet that they got with their ARP Flywheel bolts?

The rest is basically just pics of removing the cat converter and the exhaust manifold.
There is a bit of damage to the crush ring from the cat to the exhaust - reckon it's alright??

:-\

So still got to take out the sparks and put the battery on charge and keep trying to disconnect and label where appropriate..

That will really help the process.

I think you've taken it far enough for now.

Good job!

Good job!

Glad to hear it... do you have any thoughts on the sachet of flybolt lube? I can remember you saying put it away and keep it... which I thought I did.. but I can't remember if I put the sachet in the flywheel box (literally binned on monday) or if this is it..

Oh and can you tell me how to disconnect the fuel rail? I don't want to just pull at it?

Carolyn

Don't worry about the grease.  I've got stuff that will suffice. (Bring that little pack, though - it might be the stuff??)

The fuel rail connects via its hose between the engine and the bulkhead.  White plastic clip that you have to squeeze and pull.  Worry not - we'll be right there doing the clutch cylinder, the engine mount and main cooling hose.

You could take the battery tray out...

Once it's on the lift (Wednesday), I can do a few bits over the next couple of days.  The further we're on the better for the weekend.

Remind me to drain the geaebox and engine coolant as soon as it's on the lift. (That way it can dribble overnight).

ah ok - yeah I think I remember the connector - I'll remove the batter tray and see if I can get my hand round at all to disconnect it.

Cool - what did you think of the gasket from the cat to the exhaust? There's a tiny bit of damage on the side which I think happened as I was getting the cat out.. reckon it'll be ok? I can always bring some exhaust paste with me...

Spark plugs
Battery tray
Fuel rail (if possible)

Exhaust manifold(s)
Heat wrap

It'll be fine.  Paste we have.

It's easiest to reach up from underneath to unhook the fuel hose. (if the car is still on stands) if not, never mind.

You've done plenty John time for a rest.
Things will be easier at Carolyn's on the ramp.

Ok, yeah I'll leave that for now as it'll mean disconnecting the middle nappy and then trying to store the nasty thing..

@1979scotte thanks man... I'm really looking forward to getting this new engine in and running... I really miss just being in my car and driving it...

Call the midlife!

How are you for stainless ties for wrapping the manifold? I've got plenty spare if you want any and I'm due to post some buckets back tomorrow anyway.

Well I've got the ones that come with the wrap- haven't counted them yet, and Carolyn says she's go a few... Wouldn't say no!

I'll slip a handful in, looking at the length of those pipes I don't imagine one at each end will be enough [emoji23]
