A good job and in plenty of time for John to get back to tuck the kids in bed.

Why isn't it finished?
Come on people put a proper shift in.

Runs and hides.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Many thanks to Carolyn and Jonbill for making today possible!

Looking forward to finishing it tomorrow and getting to hear it going again!

Got back 1745 and was deployed straight to kids bedtime duties... Now I have to go and fish out some massive dead rat from under the shed...

Call the midlife!

Sorry to gatecrash but it's almost relevant and I know there's a lot of experienced eyes on this thread.
Should there be some form of gasket/seal between this part and the sub assembly or just flush fit?
I can't see any witness marks to suggest a gasket?

We've all consulted.  No gasket.  All of think a very thin smear of sealant can't hurt.

Awesome, thanks all, I got a full Toyota gasket kit and I can't find one that would fit the bill either.

Should I be worried about the intake manifold lying on the floor? Haha. Be a little less than hilarious for you if you forgot that

Please worry.  Saves us the effort!!

I'ts off the old engine.  Easier to get the harness off.

No, we're not there yet!

Doing a few 'extras' on the way, such as new driveshaft gaiters...

But it's close.

Captain's log-supplemental. There IS an o ring, I'd already got it out of the kit ready but removed it to clear some old oil that had seeped out post clean.
I've just removed and refitted the filter union to include said O ring.

I read that and thought, here we go.
Lets fit this nitrous system I've had lying around. ;)

Carolyn

So quite a few hours have been consumed doing extras, extra bits of fettling , and a couple of items being 'stubborn'.

Jon and John are going to fit the exhaust and call it a day.

It's coming together so nicely, don't want to rush the start-up and commissioning.

A couple more hours will be needed.

It was quite slow today. We spent I think 2.5 hrs just removing the old oil filter and fitting the clutch slave cylinder. Normally I'd say that's 2hrs too much but that's how it went today.
But I don't think we screwed anything up, which is always a win.

Err... Explain how two things that take 20 mins in total took 2.5hrs please?

Was everything thoroughly stuck?

Jonbill exaggerateth.

The oil filter took one of them 1/2 an hour.  It was well stuck.  Screwdriver job in the end.

The slave cylinder took the other about 45 mins...  Just a bit of a bugger to compress at first.

They did really well.  I was not feeling too well, so could only advise.

They've done a really tidy and well executed job.  I'm very happy with it all.

It WAS rather cold and not the nicest working conditions as a result.

Good on ya lads. And of course the sensei. Hope you're feeling a bit better now.

Know all about stuck filters. Even ones I know for a fact I put on hand-tight somehow still end up stuck.

To be honest I just default to the big plumbing pliers these days and be done with it.

The ol law of car work; jobs that take 15 mins on paper end up taking 45

Good arrows folks. Been enjoying reading the progress

Re oil filters. I only do mine up by hand but still requires the specialist tools to remove each year (hammer and screwdriver).

Mum's car undid by hand on Saturday despite the filter clearly having been there longer than it should have done.
