Very happy for JV and top marks for C and JB.

as a side note. Have said before, so repeating self here.

There are considerably less posts concerning things oil  burning. Have they all ran their course and we are now left with the healthier ones? Obviously no. But I do not look outside the walls of ROC.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

This little blighter was found in the engine coolant system- it was the reason why the air lock couldn't be resolved.
Needs to be added to the "how NOT to store an engine" thread....

Plastic cap.

Inside the end of the heater return/coolant fill pipe on the engine.

I was flushing out all the hoses, poked my finger in there, touched something and it moved.

Taped the shop vac to the tube and-----

Better than me, I got my finger stuck behind the intake manifold trying to get the water bypass hose on [emoji23]. Good save though [emoji1303]

Well she's ready for discharge.

I'm sure she'll be much happier when she gets home. :)

Huzzah! Finally.
Such a good job done by those involved.
Care to mention how many hours you and Jon put in above John?

Well on the weekend I was there with Jon, we did about 14 hours? Then I know Jon was there the subsequent weekend and Carolyn has been working at it throughout...

Hooray!
He's back!
A BIG thank you to Carolyn, Jon and for doing so much to make the swap possible and to Chris! Who laboured long and hard with me trying to get the trailer into the drive... We can failed though! Turns out the sightly bigger trailer doesn't make it up the angle of the drive...

Today's Wednesday! So I get to do stuff!
Bought some more petrol for it, ran it up to temp.

Then I tackled the handbrake for the first time- not too hard actually!
Got it to 3 clicks the from setting on the floor... Might need a bit more tightening but we'll see.

Old engine:  Timing gear in bits.  Oil pump damaged.  four bent valves, two inlet and two exhaust.  Pistons marked but ok.

I'll pop the bent valves out tomorrow and see what the seats look like.

Might be able to save most of it....

Did you find the exhaust sprocket nut? Was it jammed in somewhere?

Carolyn

It's a bolt.  Found that quite early on... a tad jammed yes.

Valve pics.  You can see some are not sitting down in their seats.  That's 'cos they're bent.

I've seen belt breakages on similar sized engines that resulted in loose bits in the cylinder and holes in pistons.
