I'm pretty sure it's on ok, I know it's not 100% dead straight, but there is room for a bit of an angle. It's the type where you glue the sides together so you don't have to take off drive shafts etc..

I'll try and get some degreaser on it in a couple of days time as I won't get a chance before then.

Other than that- commute this morning was fantastic! Properly gave it the beans!

Call the Midlife's suggestion of solvent free degreaser is best suited for the newly glued boots.

Thanks for this - I'll have a look for some..

Or you could just wipe around it with a clean rag and look at the rag?

Could do- it's got grease on it already i don't know if this was from the installation so the plan is to degrease then watch to see if and where it reappears.

Still need to do the degreasing thing..

BUT this morning I had a good 5-10mins with the top down on the commute :)

Car sounds brilliant, but there is still a rattle at about 2500-3000 rpm... might try and revisit that heatshield or keep looking for it..

Other than that.. my word it is slippery out there! Seriously missing traction control.... anyone know where you can get something from?

Take your lead boots off.
Or drive to the conditions.
There's less than 140 bhp on tap.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Bah.. POWER!!! all 140 odd of it!

Put my summer wheels on tonight- rained half way through and I managed to chip my winter alloys significantly when putting them away [emoji26]
Oh well..

Will check the tightness again in the morning and do the inflation as it's late..

Had a really nice compliment from a guy at work who I took out in it. Said it was like a mini nsx! I'll take that... He owns one!

On a side note- I changed all the wheels and then realised I hadn't unlocked the car...[emoji848][emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]

Bit of a weird one... Car totally died as I was waiting to pull out... Don't think I stalled it and it fired straight back up... Anyone ever had it happen to them??

So like a genius I thought I'd tighten up the exhaust spring bolts to try and stop the rattle just a little more and ended up snapping one of them. [emoji21]

So... Options are:
- Get the troublesome bolt out (somehow) and replace
- buy new cat from cats2u and replace what is likely to be an 18 year old system
- get some kind of sports cat
- Chuck in the old PPE system that I bought in the interim - would still need all the gaskets for it..

Oh man! Gaskets for the PPE would probably be something your local exhaust place could sort right? In some way. But yes, cats2u is a good option for speed and ease of fitting
...neutiquam erro.

The broken bit will be stuck in the silencer, not the cat!  I'd drill it out carefully and re-tap (as you have a fancy LOUD exhaust!!! :D :D).

I've got a couple of spare bolts if you want one.  Be careful, they only go in so far and then are stopped by a flange on the bolt.  If you try to tighten further - they will snap.

If you can't save the thread in the silencer, you CAN drill out a bit more and use a nut and bolt to do the job.  Tightening is a little trickier as you won't have the flange.

If you can get away for a few hours, you're welcome to come here and use our kit to sort it.

Right- thanks very much!
Any recommendations for a tap and die set?

Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk

Carolyn

The tap you need is an M10 1.5 pitch.

A small set of standard 1.5 pitch from M6 - M12 is a good start.  You can go on forever adding to that.  A lot of stuff on your car will be 1.25 and even 1mm pitch!!

Make sure you get tap handles and die holders as part of the kit.

If you don't want to drop the cat, you can line the holes up for drilling by using a G-clamp to hold the flanges close together and in line.

It just occurred to me (Doh!) that I've never shared the best place to get tools and workshop supplies.

They are trade suppliers, but happy to sell to anybody in any quantity, and their stuff is of a quality that is aimed at professionals.

No weekend service, but usually next-day delivery and very fair prices:

Careful - there's LOTS of goodies to be had!

Right - ordered a new cat from Cats2u, went for the uncertified one.. no idea if that was a good call or not. I also ordered their fitting set as a back up.
I plan on getting a tap and die set from a local parts store and will attempt to get a replacement bolt out of them as well - but we'll see. I can cancel the fitting kit part of the order if I want to.

Next steps - get the toyota back in the back garage, bumper off and start extracting bits so I can get at everything.. I'm assuming I'll have to take the exhaust out to drill it and use the tap properly.

Sussed it...

So basically, I managed to detach the nut from the silencer... At least I don't need to tap it! Just need a welder...

Not really.  Use a G-clamp to get the flanges lined up and close together.  From underneath (reaching up), start the nut onto the bolt.  Hold the nut with a spanner and tighten from underneath with a socket.  It's only welded to make the job easier.

you can do this ;)
