So basically, I managed to detach the nut from the silencer... At least I don't need to tap it! Just need a welder...

I drove around for months with just the nut on the other side, not welded. Never even loosened.

Hmmmm..... What makes it worse is that it was really tight and I had to take off the bumper etc to be able to get to the top to undo it..... Bah....

I do think that I could do with replacing the cat as it'll hopefully resolve the rattling and it's going on 18 years now...

Fair enough... do get the fitting kit with the cat.  Makes life so much easier.  I just did mine with the kit.  Job was a breeze.

Right so today resulted in me getting the MR2 back together and it sounds like it's working fine! Result. I'm hoping it's appropriately tight.. we'll see.

Unfortunately the reason why I did this before the new cat arrived etc, was because I managed to shatter the rear passenger window on the Audi whilst strimming the garden... This is frankly getting ridiculous now.

Anyway, sorted all the broken glass, covered it up with plastic and put it in the back of the garage till I can figure out my options for fixing this one..
Comments and suggestions welcome!

It's an insurance glass claim £70 roughly

Hmmm...I was under the impression that this was for windshield, need to go and check the policy... I guess I don't want to make any claims that would push premiums up...  But if so then that's not bad...

Spoken to autoglass direct and they quoted £290 .. so yeah.. It might be an eBay job in the end.

If it's only windscreen cover then I've learnt something.
If it is covered by insurance then it doesn't effect your NCB.

OK so just been on the phone to AF - lady on the phone said that since it was a comprehensive policy that "glass was covered" so it was almost like windscreen is a generic term for all glass.
So I'll likely go through them as it'll probably only be about £100 or so to get sorted... buying the glass second had is at least £35 and so my time to fix is worth more than the £65 remaining.

Id rather have a brand new one with no chips in it. It does make a big difference.

New cat arrived- I'm back down to Dorset this evening and will likely only get round to fitting it after the Audi is fixed..

jvanzyl

So this evening I decided to just do something of little consequence... Sanding!

I experimented with some high temp filler on the PPE manifold and it seems to work, the plan is to resolve all the pitting on the pipes as it's mild steel.
And then when I've got everything nice and smooth, I'm going to paint them either silver or black.... You can't wrap them as their mild steel.

I did some sanding on the ducktail, next step would be to spray the primer again and see how it comes out.

I then turned my attention to the bumper that goes with the ducktail, it's definitely seen better days so I started sanding it down.. might need to use a bit of filler on one bit as the mark is quite deep...

I'm thinking I'll likely prep it and then take it to a pro to actually spray properly,..

What I didn't do tonight was fit my new cat, or fit my dev door bushes  or do anything on the Audi that needs doing....

I need to find my Dev's bushes before I can fit them, haven't a clue where they ended up.

Today the new mid brace arrived!

I'll probably take it to my local garage to put on as I don't fancy wrangling bolts off my car on axle stands...

Looks good. Do you have a different brace on now to compare?
...neutiquam erro.

I've got the TTE/Matts brace on currently.. I'm hoping it'll fit underneath. So I'll have both.

jvanzyl

Fitted! Time for a test drive...
Oh and found a minor coolant leak..

Ok first impressions...
You know when you fit your front strut brace and you're like "why on earth didn't they fit this as standard!!???"

Well it's like that.

Big reduction in cabin scuttle and felt much better over bumps. Definitely more solid.

Strange thing though is that it felt like I could kick the backl out easier... Not that I did, but it felt like I could if I were to push it... Maybe I just need to get more used to it...

All in all I'd totally recommend it!

That's probably the same effect I had with Dev's door stabilisers.
The back kicks out easier because you're still auto-steering. You haven't adjusted to the new rigidity yet. Play around a bit and it:ll all be good.

Looks great and good to know it works well in tandem with the TTE brace!

I have a certain area where I can really push it, and for the first time I had the coilovers completely dialed up and pushed it way further than I'd been able to before. We're talking less than 40mph here but it's round and effective u-turn. Definitely greater confidence and really pleased with it.

Fitted my new cats2u cat- used their gasket set.
Used Carolyn's trick of putting g clamps on the flanges to tighten everything up.

So bit of an update following ding day.

I finally did the alarm move! really quite a nice thing to do really.. But I need to de-grease/ oil everything in the area so that its a bit better for storage.

Also fitted Dev's door bushings, and have added a bit of grease to the car body so that it doesn't scratch the paint work.. this way I'm not battling to get in and out of the car at least!

I also finally got round to fitting the EMU piggyback with a nice map made by Patrick - unfortunately I got P0155 & P0141 errors on the way back a couple of times so have now removed it whilst I diagnose exactly what's what... so far the post cat and the right pre cat have been tested and both returned a value of around 13.3 so I think they're fine. No issues on the way to work today either.

Next step is to have a look at the wiring loom and do some testing on that.. hopefully it'll be something simple..
