I see some reference to members having to replace windscreens in the search facility but wondered if there was any consensus or opinion as to the best place to go to get it done.
any advice will be gratefully received.
there is a glazing company just round the corner who have done good stuff on my house and garage and who also do automotive. mr t is 200 metres along the road if all else fails.

Surely you would claim off your insurance and they send someone round and you pay the excess?

My other car cost me £75 excess for a screen a couple of weeks ago. Doesnt affect my ncb.

I used National Windscreens last year after the Highland Drive, full replacement of screen. Did a good job and had no problems.

I've been avoiding this because my car has an MOT advisory on a chip but I did not want the risk of the replacement.  My insurer specifies Autoglass, but I assume each is only as good as the actual person carrying out the work.
Sorry, not a lot of help theredone (none at all really   s:oops:  s:oops:  ).  Hope I can feed off your plight   s:bowdown:  s:bowdown:  .

This is the only way i have ever changed a windscreen.
Why would you do it any other way.

Only thing is I would get in quick with the request to the Windscreen company as even though it may say that you can get it done relatively quickly on their website, sadly, in reality it can take a while  s:( :( s:(  They also have to remember there is a difference pfl to fl for the screen!

Go and get the chip repaired and when they say they cannot do it then insurance will replace the screen. I replaced mine last month but I just cut a secondhand one out and bonded it in myself my insurance doesn't cover me for screens just about everything else though

The service can be very poor i agree.
Weeks and weeks last time i had one changed but it only cost me £60. Thats a curry for 2 and a couple of pints in this neck of the woods so cant complain.
Try to hammer into them weather you need the FL or PFL.
They even  scock cock scock ed one up on a mondeo i had.
It was all my fault apparantly becuase i didnt tell them i had auto sensing headlights.
Sorry you had the damn reg no and the exact model.
Idiots!

I dont rate Autoglass - had them booked for my company car a while back, waited over a week then they cancelled at the last moment and the new date was about a month wait, when it was none I didnt think the job was particularly tidy. May vary depending on locations and fitters overall I wasnt impressed.

Good to hear. Are all our screens tinted as that is the only other problem if they have a plain one and you want a tinted? If they are all tinted then not a problem of course.

A new windscreen is great, you dont realise the marks on the old one until you get a new one!

I used Autoglass with no problem, apart from a missing clip, it also had the tint at the top, it didn't take long to get stone chips on my new screen though.

You need to not drive it.
Spend your time washing and polishing.

Out of curiosity, what's the difference between a fl and pfl windowscreen?
