This Arrived today off Ebay and before people say why didn't i go to Swansea i will give my reasons
i wanted to do it myself as others have
The costs and time travelling from Newcastle and back add £££'s for me and finally quality but that's subject to opinions

will hopefully post some pictures when fitted

But Swansea boys do everything better   s:lol:  s:lol:

Always good to have other options though and the quality of the Hoods does vary ( Ray in Swansea admits this himself)

Post a video but make sure the swear filter works   s:D :D s:D
Hope it goes well.

If you have trouble I think there is a trimmer near you on here

Thanks for that info but i think the trimmer you are  thinking about is more of a specialist in leather work.
i have managed to acquire a lend thanks to andyroo104  s:wink:  s:wink:  of the DVD removal / installation video so have this as reference

Probably start and finish it this weekend if all goes well

They must just nic the pics from google.

I got a monsoon one from a member on here few years back. Fit it myself. Few head scratching moments but I managed it

My mohair top was made by Haartz.  I had Jack in Swansea fit it for me - an inexpensive and fun experience - all tacked onto a weekend away in Tenby.

My roof is great quality, and I would fully recommend one.  It was Jack himself who put me in contact with them and therefore I figure it is as good as any available since Jack would know!

Is there any difference in the quality of the roof provided by jack vs haartz?

Yes night and day the Haartz is top quality & welded in heated rear screen and the Jack one is bargain basement in effect "you pay for what you get"

Also I've seen some very dodgy roof seams on some of Jacks and he himself says if you want top drawer go elsewhere

I'm happy with my Haartz

I have seen quite a few of Jacks handiwork, and I think his roofs are pretty good, especially at the price he sells them including fitting (professional fitting quotes are frequently 300+).

Like Bernie, I asked Jack for advice and he simply said if you want a new roof for your car thats well made & inexpensive buy mine.  If you want the best I recommend Haartz and he gave me a couple of contacts who in turn gave me a discount when I told them Jack had referred me.  Jack fitted the roof -the least I could do- and I am very happy with the results and the purchase.

Thanks for the info, soooooo you're basically looking at£500 for the haartz soft top plus £100 odd for fitting at jack's?

Haartz are American I think, so the post Brexit Sterling crash may have pushed the prices up? Jack will give you a good price on the fitting which may be a fair bit less than what you estimate.  Give him a call.

Carhoodsdirect.co.uk say that all their hoods are haartz.
Prices seem reasonable. 532 inc VAT.

As far as i know Haartz only supply the fabric and they don't actually make the hoods as some people think
They make mohair in 2 types Stayfast & Twillfast
There are also other companies who also make soft top fabrics very similar?

My hood looks well made the new rear window is bonded in and the fabric looks very smart, is it Haartz?
Shortly i will be able to give you my verdict

Hi Mulaz,  Would be really interested in how you get on fitting your new hood.  Was going to do mine myself with the help of my brother-in-law who's a handy bugger but my wife put her foot down pretty firmly knowing my history with jobs, what could go wrong?  It looks pretty simple to me I'm sure I can manage it!  Oh  sshit shit sshit !

Pretty sure the one you've got is the same as the mohair one I had fitted in early September by Paul of the Soft Top Shop in Stockport.  £830 all in.

So, you're looking to save yourself £300 + and you'll have the satisfaction of sorting it yourself as to the hood itself, can't believe just how easy it is to put up and down.  Had the hood  down even in the frost and you can literally do it with your little finger unlike the vinyl, trying to lower that when it was cold was like wrestling with an angry anaconda!  It also looks so much better than the vinyl, I'm embarrassed to say sometimes I often just stand there looking at.  So, think you've done the right thing there and good luck with the fitting, what possibly could go wrong!

Cheers for the best wishes!... you would think i was undertaken some epic journey up Everest
But for now i have started with lifting the hard top off using my electric winch and this is now stored up out of the way

The car is now tucked up in my warm garage for the night and the misses is away from tomorrow morning with the girls to see Soul to Soul so i can play at my hearts content all day and night if i have too with planet rock blasting  fitting my new roof:D
