Windscreen seal popping out

My rubber windscreen seal is popping out a little – just a four or five inch section of it bulging up out of place under the driver's side wiper.

Is that something I can just push back in safely myself (maybe with a plastic tool or a screwdriver wrapped in paper), or is the windscreen seal something I should really leave to a glass specialist?

I was going to give it to Autoglass to do under guarantee, but it turns out their lifetime guarantee doesn't transfer to a new owner of the car.   s:roll:  s:roll:

I wouldnt feel happy knowing water was possibly/probably finding its way in?

Presumably when you have a new windscreen fitted they use a new rubber seal?

Wouldnt it be terrible if you had a large rock hit your windscreen and you had to have a new one on your insurance?

The windscreen's fine, it's only a few years old. No need for extreme measures ...

I can have a new seal on the insurance if I want to, but I don't see why I should cough up a £75 windscreen excess just to push a bit of rubber back into place. What is it, £70 for a new seal from Toyota? £30 from an independent?

I don't think I even need a new seal, I just need the existing one reseated properly. There's no sign of water ingress, even in the Glaswegian weather this week ...

It's not really a seal - the screen is bonded in (which provides the water-tight seal) and the trim that you are referring to is bedded into the adhesive when the screen is fitted.

Sounds like the fitter didn't do the job properly originally - I doubt you'll be able to do anything with it now the adhesive has cured.

Ah, right. So the rubber trim should be glued in and clearly hasn't been properly glued? In that case I might have a claim against Autoglass, even though it's not guaranteed in my name. Worth phoning them again to discuss.
