Bought this turbo kit from Ryans2016 a member on here.

How much play should there be in the turbo shaft journal bearings?

He claims its been rebuilt??

About 0.2mm max last time I read. Obviously you'd need a gauge to measure that

Does it need oil pressure to take up the slack?
Don't know just thinking out loud.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

there should be a small amout of play fore and aft, but none side to side
Oil will take up some of the slack

There's an interesting and easy test rig that Ant demonstrates on a recent episode of wheeler dealers

 Thanks for the reply's.
There is movement side to side. I read about the oil taking up some of the slack, but this seems
a little more.

Hope you are reading this Ryan as you are not answering any P.Ms.

My Fault I should have checked it on the day,but being naive to turbos I may not have seen it.
I thought a club member would honest!

never mind live and learn.

Thanks again for your help.

Not having a pop a Ryan as it's not my business but I've been shafted by fellow club members at least twice.

From my reading of the "For Sale" thread
@Ryans2016 wrote:

"selling my tubro kit

But as @shiny wrote "live and learn"!

I can attempt to contact Ryan here. If there is evidence of misrepresentation of the condition of the item being sold then we can look at that. However, on the sales thread another user asks about condition, to which there is no response. Also, money and item have been exchanged/accepted on as seen basis. I'll pm you both shortly.

I think there were 2 turbos, at least thats what the for sale thread states. If the turbo is ball bearing there can be quite a bit of play but if the ordinary one you should not have any play. When my civic turbo was rebuilt it had none. Anyways, you bought lots of stuff for nothing and rebuilding a journal bearing turbo is not so costly like the ball bearing ones. Even if the turbo is for a rebuild you still have a very nice deal considering you have a water to air, pipes and an ECU to run everything. Most likely you can run this turbo with no problem, if its just side to side play and it doesnt touch the walls you should be fine.

Also his response:
"I'll be delivering myself
I'm would like u to cheak it all over make sure your happy with it all
Sump will come with it all was done by Steve Norris
delivering we can sort a day and time between us"

Off Topic The guy was kind enough and drove 500 miles so you can see what you are buying and you did not even check?
Off Topic2 No one drives 500 miles to sell some crappy stuff. Its used, you cant expect to be like new.

I cant say it nicely - its your problem and you cant complain... My 2 cents on the story.

Not gonna argue, he asked u to check so u can be happy and now u are not. End of the deal me thinks.

P.S. I doubt hes mechanic so.. idk how can he say its DUFF turbo...

That'll do folks.
This is between shiny and Ryan.

Closing thread.

But nonetheless a lesson learned here; despite the fact that 99% of purchases via the forum go perfectly, you are always still dealing with a sold as seen scenario in the end. If the seller knowingly sells duff kit then that's a separate matter and it is to be taken up between the seller/buyer and I must be notified so I can help mediate. Obviously as a forum we cannot and do not condone this and can take forum-related action, but we cannot interfere in the dealing itself.

Sorry this hasn't been the best experience. Please don't let it put a rainy cloud over your forum experience indefinitely.
