I've got an occasional whining/beeping when the AC is on, which is pretty much always.

It's not the fan motor because it only does it when A/C is active.
Anybody had this?

Call the midlife!

It's not The Wife telling you it's too "beeping" cold then??

"beeping" is southern. Up north we have more of an exclamation

Yeah, I'm from Yorkshire, it's got to be pretty strong to warrant "beeping" round here!

Compressor / clutch? Though I don't know what would be beeping?

If you're concerned there's a local specialist, I think I posted their details up in the garage section.

Not really concerned. It's intermittent at the minute but if it gets more frequent I will need to have a deeper look.
Just checking if someone had experience with this.

It's quite a loud beep.

Simple solution....move further north across the border....you'll get get to the Dreadnought Garage / Knockhill track nights and you won't need to use your air con [emoji4]

Alarm Sounder beep or Dash beep? i.e. Is it the same beep/same source you get when attempting locking the car with door open? You say it's quite loud, mine's quiet but I haven't done the alarm move mod. Or is it the dash sounder (i.e. Something left on passenger seat with seatbelt undone)? Or is it summary else? I'm asking like I have an answer - sadly I'm just being nosey and hoping this'll maybe not an idea with someone else  :-[

No its not a noise from a speaker. It's more mechanical or an air whistle

Sounds silly, I know.  You could try cleaning the belt and the pulley grooves.  It might be that it only makes belt noise under load....

Only a possibility, but an easy job?

That was my first thought but upon exiting the car and listening in the engine bay the noise was gone. It's definitely coming from the cabin. So I can only suspect the cooling unit. All I know is that it's a big mass under the passenger dash, so I have no idea how it works or what it's made of.

The pitch doesn't change either. And it's immediate on pressing the AC button. Could be an electric buzz from a relay as well

Could be wrong but sounds like one of the teeth or more for the spinning cogs/motor have broken off which is causing that to happen. When it slips, it's causing the noise.

Hmm could be. It's more of a continuous tone

It sounds like a noisy solenoid.  But looking at the diagrams I have - there isn't one.

There's a powerful relay that switches the clutch in the engine compartment relay box (the one behind the battery.

There's also a couple of relays on the fan unit under the dash.

Got a stethoscope?
