So here goes another build thread! Previous track focused projects include a 330ci, a couple of 350z's and a 987.1 boxster S.

Kids then happened, things got more expensive and the thought of putting a boxster in to a gravel trap became less appealing. I also missed modding cars which is just as enjoyable as the driving for me. So that's where the mr2 comes in to play.

Currently I have two, one has the 2zz conversion and a few other nice bits. But the car is generally unloved and beyond saving.

The other is a standard but nice enough 03. My plan is to swap all the good parts from the 2zz in to the 03 and end up with the best of both worlds.

So work is underway getting parts transferred, I'm aiming to get everything other than the engine and gear box over to the 03 then enjoy it over the summer. Then transplant the engine and box over the winter.

Sorry for the initial long post, I'll keep it brief from now on and with more pictures. Let's be honest, that's why we are here. ;D

Looks like a good plan, like to see pics.

So it's been a reasonable weekend of work on the mr. The rear end is more or less swapped, I'll make a list of parts to help me keep track of everything.

I did have a nasty shock when I removed the old rear subframe to find it had been badly welded, so replaced that with a new one. I also applied a few coats of hammerite stone chip protect for added piece of mind.

The front end is being held up as I'm waiting on some hardrace RCA's. I've removed the front control arms and fitted the super pro offset bushes to add some castor. As soon as they arrive I'll get it bolted back together then take it for a geo set up. If there are any places that specialise in MR2's that people can recomend I'm all ears.

So there's been quite a few updates to the mr2 since my last post. I'll keep it brief since a lot of the mods have been done before.

The 2zz swap is done, loads of suspension mods, a few aero bits and some some styling bits. Needless to say I'm still loving the car. More pics to follow!

Few more pics. I finished off cutting the slots in the boot lid in order to fit the rear wing.

Needs some finishing, paint and a bit of weather stripping. I'm please with the overall look of it but will probably make some larger aluminium uprights for track use.

Judging by the latest video of the mr2 on the Ring, this car is ready to tackle some tracks :)

Thank you. The car is certainly on the way to being ready.

I took it out this evening, it was the first time I've pushed it on the tyres it that came on the ultraleggera's (2016 toyo proxy TR1's) and they were woeful so will certainly need to be replaced before track time.

Also a baffled sump, would be a shame to allow oil starvation of the 2zz on the first TD.

Absolutely.

Don't so the dreaded mis-shift :) No sump will save you from that.
Heel-toe and don't drop to 1st or 2ns at stupid high rpm.

I think it was Alex that said recently he sometimes comes out a corner out of lift for a second , but it's still better than over-revving.

Those Toyos should never see a track. End of :)
