Each to their own but the 2zz always works better with the correct transmission.
Don't think I've ever seen it used with a 5 speed either.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Waste of time mating a 5-speed 'box to a 2ZZ. The ratios are all completely wrong.

Its not ideal I know but hey if somebody is willing to sponsor me with all the parts needed (plus shipping & import fees post brexit) Ill gladly do it - as it is now life has put other priorities in front of me.

Till then Ill just enjoy a working engine and a LSD and work on my driving skills :)

When winter comes Ill do 6 spd box with other bits. Im in a middle of a possible personal real estate sale so this might not happen at all, I will know more next week.

I was close to getting a complete k24 swap kit (engine/ box etc.) but decided to drop it and focus on more important aspects of my life for the time being.

But not to waste time I do have a few questions regarding a 2zz swap:

1. I will probably will be buying 2zz swap kit and within there is an ECU marked 89666-20150. I will also be getting a adjacent car key. Will this suffice for the engine to start or there is something more I need to think of?

2. Apparently connecting to one of these ECU is not an easy thing, I would like to do a custom road map for the car if all goes well. Well how does one connect to it and what is needed? Ive read somewhere that one needs Win XP to run software etc.?

Thank You!

Just to update on this, I will opt for the 6 spd as I found one in Croatia for a good price.

Ive ordered LSD few days ago from Swiss (good deal too) and should have a pallet with my swap engine and bits next week in my yard. So far so good.

Also ordered brake bits, should be all done with the swap. EBC green stuff, ATE power front and pagid rear discs, braided brake lines, rbf 660 brake fluid.

Are you sure about Green Stuff?
People usually rate the yellow.

I had them on my Laguna GT car, was very happy for road use. They will do for this first set until I get my finances in order and better get to know the car with all these modifications. If something better will be needed Ill go for ds2500. They make them sadly only for fronts.

Yellow stuff - herd a lot of negative feedback, keeping distance from them. DS2500 I had and they were great it that category.

I set fire to a set of Greenstuff pads around Castle Combe in an EG6 Civic. Never again.

I currently use Bluestuff front and Yellowstuff rear. Motul RBF600 fluid and Goodridge lines. Hard to fault, work great on track.
I'm very hard on brakes.

Horses for courses.
All my 2s have run yellows and I've been happy. Stock turbo V6 and supercharged.
I've got greens on the front of the blue and they're OK but I've definitely read bad things about them.
Tbh for road anything decent will do.

This car wont see track this year 99% sure so it will most definitely do. Ill probably sell my house and move abroad at some time this year so really dont want to put too much dinero in it also a reason. I grew fond of it and probably will take it wherever I go.

Car is off to a mechanic. He will rebuild the stock 1zz, insert LSD into my stock 5 spd box, completely overhaul brakes and other bits. Hopefully Ill be on the road in few weeks time :)

Didnt go with any swap ATM, this seems like the most affordable option vs 2zz/k24 which Ive planned and would go thru if it wasnt for brexit/ covid.

This way Ill get a fun reliable light sports can and once things improve on the income side I can do whatever I want to without losing too much time. Ill use this time to learn to drive the car properly.

When's the car due back? What parts are you changing on the 1zz?

In few weeks time if all goes well. So far the plan is to change piston rings (hopefully only that related to oil burning) and everything related to opening the engine and refreshing it (dont know until its open), new clutch, stock helical LSD, to lighten stock flywheel to sub 5 kg, complete overhaul of braking system (refurbish calipers, new braided lines, pads, discs, RBF 660...), to install subframe spacers, camber bolts, Im considering completely new exhaust system after stock manifold (saves loads of weight and some power gains...)

Yeah, fun times hope all goes well and I dont need to bore cylinders...

Ouch. Crank OK? Looks like a bit of emery paper wouldn't go amiss haha

Are you getting bigger/more holes drilled in the pistons or just replacing?

Crank is most certainly not ok but its will not be disastrous by the looks of it. Ill know more today and also whats the situation with cylinder walls.

Plan is to just replace piston rings. Also chain tensioner is not great but it can do probably minimum 30 000 miles more. By that time Ill either boost this 1zz or do a swap and do a N/A build honda or toyota will see.

There is one crazy guy in the UK doing 1.9 tdi swap kit as we speak for our car. Who knows maybe Ill do the unspeakable, dark side when boosted has its perks :D

So bottom line my old/ stock engine was not worth saving. Crank was damaged, so as cylinder walls, head needed full resresh etc. so I opted to source used but in good condition 1zz engine. Got in touch with good ppl from UK, Swiss, DE but at the end found one still in a completely smashed zzw30 - lucky find. Engine seems to be running OK with no smoke or weird noises and got a good deal so went for it.

Also managed to source what I was looking for a while - rear undertray. Im looking more into car aerodynamics and since my car didnt have any I anted it ASAP. If I go full bananas Ill probably to something more drastic (min. flat complete undertray).

Hopefully engine will be decent and I can finally get this bad boy rollin by the end of the next week :D

Here is a balancing report of my stock flywheel - my friend did a good job. highly recommended. Here is his business page https://elmet.hr/automoto%20performance%20tuning%20eng.html

Brakes were done, worst in the back as seen.

Front after reparation and upgrade look sexy af :)

First brakes need to sorted out so we can test the engine properly but first impression is that there is zero smoke and it revs much better. Probably due to lightened flywheel.

Hopefully next week work will be done and I will start enjoying it.

Cars done for this phase. "New" engine from 2003 is in, completely refreshed, lightened flywheel, new clutch, helical LSD, new lighter battery (5 kg), complete breaking sistem overhaul (ATE power, EBC, braided lines, motul brake fluid, pagid), undertray...

Still got an alignment to do today and it will take some time for the ECU to adjust to a good working healthy engine.

Next Im thinking bucket seat, harness, rims, tires...  And of curse to drive it as it should be driven :)

Summer is coming, puts a smile on my face. Got twisty roads to explore

Previous post I wrote that I got some twisty roads to explore - I Wasn't about to waste time!

I was blessed that WRC madness has started in Croatia, for the first time we are hosting a WRC event, and parc ferme is 15min drive from my house :)

More about the upcoming event can be found here:

https://rally-croatia.com/en/

So what better to do then to join the madness and use my Spyder while Im at it!

First night of setting the parc ferme up right next to GR racing service truck

Next one is on route of SS 5 which will be driven on Friday 23rd April

Last one is in a small town called Krašić where refueling zone will be

I dont have any more pictures as I was travelling by myself and Im not much of a picture taker

Car performed flawlessly, road was slippery enough to do some MR fun proving LSD was worth the investment :)

If anybody is coming to spectate WRC Croatia feel free to contact me for any assistance he/ she may need.
