Frunk won't latch

I had the frunk lid open yesterday (to change the power steering pipes!) tried to close it and it won't latch down.

I'm just wondering how it is supposed to latch - does a spring lock the latch lever over the top of the bonnet hook once it passes a certain point?

Also, how do I remove the latch box? This is a facelift 04 model. There are bolts to the left and right that I have removed (without removing the front bumper), but it seems to be fixed at the bottom as well. I can't see with the bumper in place.
