Quote from: Dev on February 10, 2021, 22:40I find the perception of speed better than the dangers of speed.
Take for instance my friends Ferrari 308 which is slow by todays standards but why wasn't it slow by 1976 standards. It wasn't and it is still exciting to drive. These newer insulated heavy cars with so much horsepower makes it impossible to enjoy unless you are driving 8/10 which makes them dangerous and unusable.

I'm in no way implying this car couldn't use more power but there came a time when I had to step back and enjoy the drive realizing  that although it's not the fastest in a straight line, it's just about faster than everything else in the corners which is far more fun.

You've got a 2zz haven't you?

I do and initially it was fun but like all things power it started to feel sluggish again. It wasn't sluggish I just wanted more because I got use to it. This same thing happened to a friend of mine that added a turbo at around the same time. Initially we felt the power was ridiculous but as time went on it felt sluggish to him so he upped the boost. When I drove it, I felt it was too much car but not to my friend. Eventually at meets he would offer a temporary trade of sorts with another owner that had bone stock car for a stretch of road. I asked him why and he said that in a way he preferred stock power because it was more relaxing to drive.
Since that time I have driven many other cars that owners wanted me to evaluate. If the car was in good shape I felt that although it is clearly slower than my 2ZZ in a straight line however the fun factor was still there making power not as important as it is with other cars.

I do have to admit that my suspension is far more radical than stock which makes it more car but I would be just as happy with a stock car if that was all that I had because it is still a rewarding drive where you have plenty of room to improve on your skills as a driver.

What is your suspension setup @Dev?

Primarily Tein SSP coilovers. Addco 1" front sway bar and rear Whiteline sway bar. High and Tight end links.
-1.5 camber front and -1.8 camber rear.

Back on topic I am entertaining myself with calculations of specific fuel energies, there f/a ratio etc.
It is stunning how much power can be produced by specialised fuels.
P.e. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq6GBhsSsgQ

By jove and then wé are faffing about 5% ethanol or not at the pump...

It all makes for interesting reading; some new, mostly refreshing what has descended a bit to the abiss of my memory.
There shoúld be some 10 -20% safe chemical supercharging (not using NOS) possible. Again, not really neccessary and even 20%  is not world shocking but still a cool thing.

Sofar no response from the crans scraper manufacturer but the manufacturer of water/methanol injector kits is fast ánd proactively helpful. To be continued.

@Petrus what sort of kit are you considering? something along the line's of these?

water/methanol kits

Well, yes, something akin.
Thing it that is meant for high intake temp/pressure of supercharging and to make use of it you need to adjust ignition timing ánd fuel/air ratio. It adds methanol = fuel and it burns quite a bit slower than gasoline.
So a NoGo with the OEM ecu.
Fitting it without the proper adjustment in tuning wil make the car run wórse.

Adding a chemical oxidiser is (even if you could acquire it) both illegal ánd involves having a monocombutible on board; double NoGo!

Still a nice bit of mental gymnastic to calculate the ins & outs of the various kits.

Also cool to fit it with water only just for the heck of it; literally :-)
The ónly benefit a light mist of water spay míght have is as a cleaning agent.
Only 2 kilo (with a smaller tank) or so and I réally miss the  rocket launch button ;-) but no way I will fit one connected to nothing!

Trade it in for a Yaris GR ;-)

Short of that hope for a lighter bonnet/rear deck/windshied.

Ah, ok.

You are second though, after Jason ;-)

For the time being though can´t even offer the charming company a ride. The municipality is still under perimetral lock down :-(

Petrus

By Jove, the crank scraper will not give me much change from 400€ when shipping, duties and VAT are added  :o
