Gear Cage Mounts

Hi All,
Has anyone got a set of Steve's (Widermuller) excellent Gear Cage Mounts they are willing to part with please..?

I did setup a Group Buy last year, but I think Steve has been too busy with more important things in his life to tackle.

So it's a long-shot but if anyone has some and are willing to sell them, then please drop me a line.

Simon didn't you bypass the mount and screw yours direct to the body?

Mmm... by mounting directly, are you not likely to introduce play over time by the bolts chafing/moving in the nylon cage..?

I recall Steve's aluminium mounts were 'inserted' into the nylon cage thereby acting as a sleeve surrounding the retaining bolts..

Yes, I just took the rubber mounted bushes off and screwed direct to the floor so it was solid. This takes out the play that you get in the normal set up so the gearchange is better.

The rubber bushes are just there to reduce NVH and make the car seem more upmarket I suppose but its a compromise like everything and makes the gearchange less precise.

If you want to get some height then you can just make up your own spacers out of anything light but rigid that you may have to hand as they are hidden by the centre console so doesnt matter how **** they look as no one can see them!

Having lovely hand made spacers is a waste when no one knows they are there really.

(And easy to put back the rubber bushes if you dont feel that its better).

If you really, really want some alloy spacers though, you get them wth the ebay short shift kits if you can still get them?

Mine has been like that for something like 5 years with no issues as far as I know.

If you look up BRD (Brookes Racing Development) I'm sure Lou Brookes makes some poly ones that do the same job if you definitely want to keep some form of spacer/bush under the cage.

Been running with it for 3 years like this, bit more fizz in the gearstick but feels solid.

There is no need to overthink this, all you are doing is raising the gearlever up a bit so there is no right or wrong. You could probably make some out of an old broom handle! The only reason you need these is if the shiftlever is too far away from you.

I have a couple of the ones from the short shift kit to hand and they raise the cage 12mm and about 35mm across (not the best picture!);

The top portion just locates them in the cage. Unfortunately I couldnt find the original ones as a comparison but I dont think they actually raise the cage up much.

OK, thank you. I printed them out and they fit nicely so far. I used PETG with 80% infill. Curious how it feels once installed.

Towards the end he shows his home printed new mounts. He includes some before and after clips so you can see exactly why you may want to take out the oem bushes!

Very easy to just remove the oems and bolt straight to the floor to try it without and if you think you need more height, you can then look at your spacer options. Easy to put the oems back too if you dont like the feel of more direct shifts!
