Yes there is a thread on it somewhere.
Can't say I approve tbh.
Unless it's destined for the breakers yard.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Not mý thing but economy wise I cannot see a build coming to much less than that ebay one.
As replica kits come that one is actually good looking.
Negotiate and drop in a turbo or Carolyn´s supercharged engine in progress.

I find all these fakes rather sad.

Perhaps see them more as tributes?
Although I'm not that keen either

Well...
There are many sides to the subject and many shades of it.
The ultimate is a lightweight e-type made by the present day plant using old, issued nut unused chassis numbers.
Or maybe the ultimate is take an old barely salvageable Type 35 Bugatti and build 3 or 4 new ones.
The Porsche 550 Spyder scene is one to various steps down the ladder: You can buy remade ones with original engine to fiber body on a vw running platform.
Take it from there.
For mé the top rungs are the saddest to fringe criminal, the simplest the most fun.

Remember the cardbord/foambord Ferrari F40 replica on a Panda or so basis? Obviously ludicrous but totally harmless fun.

And... is it all much different from dressing up a BMW 320d as an M3?

Dressing up a repmobile to look like an M3 has always been the saddest of sad things to me.
If I had an M3 I'd de badge it to look more inconspicuous tbh.

I dont have a problem with kit cars but I do dislike a pure "replica". Sorry but I can think of no merits for them at all.

I do love customising your car to make it unique and personal though.

I watched this video the other day and I would certainly have one of these;

aahhhh the poor man´s Lotus ;-)

Carolyn

I think one has to distinguish between the genuine kit-car (Robin Hood, Dax Cobra) the reproduction (often way more expensive than the original) and the plastic-bits-glued-on-the-outside-of-a-complete-car (which I class as fakes).

All the others have their place except the plastic fakes, which are sad and a waste of a good car.

Not often I express an 'opinion'.  I must feel quite strongly about this one, then.

P.S.  My old man was part of the team who built the original RS200s. He doesn't like the fakes either.

There is one very clear distinction between fake and other; the brand/type logo.

Using anything registered is simply illegal and indeed fake.

Roj

Not my cup of tea but as far as replica kits go, that one looks pretty decent.

I still very much wouldn't though.

Slightly off topic, but I think the only replicas I can get on board with are the GTO Engineering Ferrari 250s,where they take a chassis number from an unloved, usually scrap, Ferrari and build a 250 from scratch as per the original design. It seems they build a lot of these for owners of originals, as the £10m+ OGs live in a/c'd bubbles and they drive/race the £800k replicas. Which makes sense.

A Ford Group B lookalike from a Toyota roadster... No ta.

Mwah... for me it is a ostentatious colour of grey. It still is a replica albeit a good one.
Same as wearing a good fake Patek Philippe because you have the real one in the safe.
What is the difference with wearing afake one and not having one in the safe.
Does owning a real one give you the right to flaunt a fake?
As I say; ostentatious grey.

Yep, fully agree. It is a very grey area.

Unfortunately for me, unless something nice happens with the Euromillions, I can't see myself being in the position to decide if it feels right driving a £1m replica to preserve the £10m original that's sat in my garage! :))

Then there is the pre-owned 10K Bugatti type 35 replica which as a bonus is more reliable tech. Not grey either but blue :-)

p5ycho

Kitcars, nah, not for me. To each is own though, if you enjoy building an driving it, go for it.
