For me personally I wouldn't on something that old.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Crower Stage 1 Cams (MonkeyWrench USA)
Fidanza lightweight flywheel
Zero - 4 into 2 Equal Length, tuned collector, Manifold SS.
Silverstone Performance De-cat pipe, fitted with 200 CEL Sports Cat.
Moroso Racing sump (baffled and extra capacity)
Blueflame Custom Twin Exhaust.
PPE Cold Air Induction system
Apexi Power FC (ECU) with Commander hand controller
Up graded serpentine belt tensioner (Alloy)

Mapping / Dyno by Noble Motorsport.
171 BHP - with dyno print out

171 bhp is great for 1zz . I have envy of the mx5 nc 2.0 lump which has more tuning options.

Remaps can work well on NA engines too but of course turbo engines respond better.

I'm debating the MAF mod and Zero manifold assuming I can bet the bloody handbrake working!

I have spent quite a bit of time probing the Toyota ECU product range that is fitted to 1zz-fe.

Far more time than it is worth with very little result.

All the ones fitted to the MR2 era cars are OTP (one time programmable) as they use a Masked ROM - e.g. the Read Only Memory has a mask over the die so it cannot be erased using UV light. And it certainly cannot be erased electronically. The CPU is a Toshiba 9000 series 97PW42AF.

It is possible to run an external eeprom/flash using a little PCB which would be an identical copy of the daughter board fitted to the Tom's / Blitz / Mines ECU for 1UZ-FE part number 89661-50450 as those ECU's run EXACTLY the same microprocessor as our MR2 Roadster ECU's.

I have these very poor quality photos of such a daughter board, I have been hunting for one of these Toms/Blitz/Mines ECUs on and off for a few years now but nothing has turned up yet. If I could get one, then it would start the ball rolling for working towards being able to tune the 1ZZ-FE ecus.

There is also another ECU fitted to 1zz-fe cars, later Corolla Verso, the ECU part number is 89661-0f030 but these cars have electronic throttle body, and thus drive by wire acclerator pedal.... which could easily be converted to fit. And these 8966-02140 are fully readable and re-flashable

I did not get any further than this, I have two kids and a demanding business to run so not much free time nowadays. But I documented everything publicly here :-

This Russian guy has developed the equipment to read the factory flash data from the Toshiba 9000 series 97PW42AF in our Roadster ECU's. (bit of google translate time)

https://www.drive2.ru/b/464823489518371078/

So all it really takes to open the door up, it to contact the Russian guy, get him to dump a stock ECU. Then clone the Toms/Blitz/Mines piggy back PCB. It is 100% doable, just nobody has done it yet.

Have you noticed that our ECU is actually on this list for modification.

http://www.mines-wave.com/english/CATALOG/ECU/VX-ROM_TOYOTA.htm

So they do actually make a daughter board for our ECU type.

I am in communication with the Russian guy, he is very smart and has alot of hours invested into Toyota ECU reverse engineering. There are some hold ups in the cloning game. With time I'm confident he will have solutions but this maybe years as it is just one guy reverse engineering a complex chip with not documentation. He is a very bright individual, I am sure he will one day open the door.

By which time ICE will be banned. Unfortunately.

Well...
The 2035 is on fossil fuel burners. Also on néw cars sold.
Secondly... can´t see it for rural areas.
We´ll see.
The conflict with Russia is not helping the ICE cause though. Public opinion will be softer about fuel use restrictions/ price increases, whether necessary or not, as such speeding up electrifying.

Until EVs are priced the same as ICE vehicles I would not fork out my hard earned £££ just to satisfy some green environmentalists!

When did common sense ever stop politicians doing something stupid?

In this case there is a hidden agenda and the course ordained by their puppet masters.

Véry neat indeed. The flat torque curve as neat as hp. numbers.

The MAF mod was found to not play nice with different cams.
Also it makes no sense when you have a custom mapping. Remember that the MAF mod is basically only a trick to fool the ECU into advancing the ignition at low/mid revs. The extra power because of removing the slight restriction is not going to shock the dyno.
