Late update.

Well all was not good as the disc got very hot by the time I got home so I assume the brake pads were binding, I adjusted the hand brake to its lowest position in case that was the problem but no still getting hot when driven a couple of miles or more.

Got in touch with a Toyota/MR2 guy who said he could sort it, three times he let me down, last week being the latest let down, jeeese this is hard work ::)  ::)

So I decided nothing for it but to tackle it myself ( I have been missing my run outs :'(  :'(  :'( ), pushed for time because of the weather (no garage) and my wifes mother hospitalized and we have been visiting every day.

This morning got it jacked up and this evening after hospital visiting removed the caliper.

Things I noticed:
The two M12 bolts were VERY tight and dry.
The split in the pad, could I super glue the crack ? kidding !!! :)
It looks like a clip missing, I havent lost it, could this be why the pad split ? could this be why it was seizing causing the disk to get hot ?
I will replace the carrier with one of my restored ones.

I have never had a brake pad crack like that in the past on other cars.

Jeeeeeeeese..................

The pad most likely cracked due to the heat. This is why bedding in pads are important to temper them but in this case the temps were so high it gave way.  Sometimes it is a manufacturing defect as in my case where a front TRD pad cracked.

I'm having nearly as much trouble posting on here lately as you are with your brakes !
Whoever replaced the caliper did not clean and lube the pad carrier.  The missing clip has allowed the pad to move and has broken as a consequence.
Not good practice and certainly not a professional job.
Although you have just had the pads replaced it is best practice to replace as a pair and at both ends of the axle. I doubt single pads are sold anyway!
From where you are now I suggest you employ a mobile mechanic, not necessarily a " specialist and have new pads and clips fitted and lubed together with your refurbed carriers.

I have had absolutely no issues with the Advantage Calipers now been fitted a couple of weeks and about 300 miles done - new Pagid Pads and Discs fitted at the same time by my mechanic son. Never seen a pad break like that as its been said they cant have been fitted correctly.

The mechanic talked a good job but at the time I was not impressed with him for a few reasons but hey ho :(

I will obviously be fitting a full set of pads when I can get them, looked at Halfords and MrBen, Euro were quite expensive and out of interest I will check with MrT.

I suspect that the nipple on the back of the pad was not located in the slot on the piston crown, making the pad rock from side to side when you braked. (Hence the radiused wear pattern and obvious overheating.) It would also explain why you couldn't get the handbrake to adjust.

Better check the other side!

Pagid pads off Ebay will be fine.

On reflection Tiger I think you should consider having that caliper checked as its very likely that the piston has been subjected to very high temperatures judging by the colour of the carrier. More so than that of track events leading to a compromise in the rubber seals. Be safe please and have the other side checked out as well. Just words of wisdom here.

All now seems good, fitted the new pads and carrier, took the 2 for three trips and stopping every 3 or 4 miles to check the disc for heat, non just the norm you would expect and after each trip I removed the wheel just to check all was fine and I now have a good working handbrake :)
