I know it's mechanical , but the issue only happened after I was experiencing electrical issues (tensioner pulley seems to have disappeared! resulting in a dead battery)

It is only mechanical, isn't it!!  < silly ?

Take the side vent off & douse it with lube.

It's usually the door sticking shut and the spring that opens it struggling to do the job. I think you might find that if you prop the opening lever in its 'open' position, you'll be able to gently pry the door open.

Plenty of spray lube in the direction of the spring (as Gaz advises) and on the hinges can help.  Also a bit of spongy rubber stuck on in a location that will help to push the door open can do the trick.

The door on Friday had the opposite issue. I discovered this at the petrol station with a queue of people behind me so it was a little embarrassing to say the least.
Solved it in the end with a credit card. Went into the gap between the door and wing and just levered it open.
