A silly question about Axle stands.

Whats the best way to get the car onto the Axle stand/or stands at the rear ?

Jack it up at the engine jacking point until high enough to put the stand in the place as per the markings on the sill ?

I'm not a fan of putting jack stands under sills.  I prefer to put them under suspension mounting points on the chassis, which are much stronger.

Almost exactly as you state, except axle stands in the plural.
If elevating the whole car I lift the rear end first, why?  Because that is the way I thought it should be done and it works for me.
Some trolley jacks have insufficient elevation to raise the car to the required height.
I use a hard wood block with a locating recess for the jack head to get that elevation.
Similar under the jack may also suit.
Of course, not to forget to chock the front wheels!
To protect the paintwork I use a double thickness of carpet offcut.
