Not being able to log on.....

Ok, this is the latest.....

When I open the home page, the time is NOT the correct time at all. More like at least an hour behind. At least. So don't know what is going on there.

The, I try to log on and after the second time I log on, it then gives me BOTH times as the same, but this time, they are the correct times (well, there is usually no more than a minute in it anyway). Something VERY weird is happening with the times in my browser......any ideas?

Going to try Tem's idea now and see what happens.

My time on the home page is an hour behind and ive NEVER had any problems logging in... i would still think the problem is YOUR pc rather than the forum....   s:? :? s:?

Oh yeah Kris, I have NEVER thought it was the forum. I pretty much KNOW it is my PC, but WHAT it is I don't know.

Anyway, this is the final analysis. I have just tried Tem's idea and this is what happened.

Click on link to take to home page. Time says 10.04am. Actual time on PC and in reality 11.05am.

First log in to forum, takes me back to log in page, as it has been for a while, with time saying 10.04am with actual time STILL 11.05am.

Left the computer at that point without touching it for about 10 mins.

Came back to log in for second time. got in this time, but time says last visit 11.04am anc correct time was actually 11.15am. Also says this on PC.

So, deduced from that, the FIRST log in IS registering with the forum, but doesn't seem to be showing on the PC. Won't actually let me see anything or actually BE logged in for some reason. But on the second attempt, it DOES recognise that I am logged in but also regonises that I WAS logged in last time too, even though it didn't show on the screen that I was!!!

WHAT the HELL is going on?!!!! I REALLY don't know what is going on now........

God, I know I keep asking, but has ANYONE got ANY ideas on this. I am tearing my bloody hair out with this!!!!

Try what i said - after the first login attempt,clear your cache and CTRL+F5 the home page.

IE is weird. IE is random. IE is M$ product. It sucks bigtime especially in caching.

Try Opera, you just might like it  s;) ;) s;)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Not sure of this is the same problem but NTL have had some odd problems with one/some caching on their Inktomi cache servers.  I had "log on" problems similar to this on eBay and they posted a message on thier homepage advising users to try setting manual proxy servers within IE.  This worked for me - you will be best trying one thats close to your location.  I just swap betwwen the Nottingham ones when they slow down.

I have pasted the proxy details below ....

Setting an explicit web proxy in Internet Explorer for Windows
The following procedure works on all Windows platforms running Internet
Explorer 5.x/6.x, and the procedure for Internet Explorer 4.x is very
similar:

Open Control Panel Internet Options (or, in IE, pull down menu Tools and
select Internet Options...).
Click on the tab Connections.
Click on button LAN Settings.
Uncheck Automatically detect settings.
Uncheck Use automatic configuration script.
Check Use a proxy server but ensure that the boxes are left blank.
Click on button Advanced:
In the row HTTP fill in the name and port number of your chosen web proxy
server (see below). It is essential that you do not select port 80, even if
your chosen server offers a proxy service on that port.
Ensure that the other rows are left blank.
Uncheck Use the same proxy server for all protocols.
In the Exceptions box enter: 192.168.*
Click OK.
Click OK to exit LAN settings.
Click OK to apply the changes and exit Internet Options.
The last few stages in Advanced avoid using the proxy for Secure HTTPS and
FTP traffic, and ensure that you retain local access to any cable modem
diagnostics pages and to any NAT router setup pages, which typically use
addresses in the range 192.168.xxx.xxx.

To return Internet Explorer to normal operation with no explicit web proxy:

Open Control Panel Internet Options (or in IE pull down menu Tools and
select Internet Options...).
Click on the tab Connections.
Click on button LAN Settings:
Uncheck Automatically detect settings.
