Chattering noise coming from the rear off-side (Wheel maybe)? Any ideas?
Mainly in second/third gear, At low speed, but can still slightly hear it at high.

Still hear it with the clutch in

Wheel bearing?
Drive shaft?

heatshield?  does it make noise when car stationary if you blip throttle?

i'v given the heatshields a good tug, but nothing, to be honest it doesn't sound like the heatshield. it sounds more like a clicking type scrapping noise.

To be honest it sounds like a wheel bearing, but i'd thought i'd check while i'm waiting for mr T to have a look at it.

Thanks Ed

Called my warranty company and they said if it turns out to be a 'Worn' wheel bearing they will not cover it. (but if i continue to drive it) and it Breaks, they will cover the repair. How stupid is that ?

wear and tear isnt it.

if it is a wheel bearing and you do have to pay to replace it its a fairly simple job so wouldnt bother with mr t's prices just any local garage should do it

True, but if I leave it and risk the chance of an accident when it does break  s:shock:  s:shock:
I can get it repaired for free plus all the other damage caused by the bearing breaking, for example a new wheel if it comes off. Then I can feel like the warranty is paying itself off.   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:

It's like these adverts for getting the chips on your windscreen fixed for free if your fully comp. they insurance company will fork the small bill to get a chip repaired so that they don't have to pay hundreds when the chip becomes a crack.

if its a wheel bearing then there will most likely be some movement, jack the car and put in some axle stands, then grab hold of the wheel and see how much movement you get.

TBH the most likely is still the heatshields as the wheel bearing would make a noise in any gear, some are hard to reach from the top

Could it be something embedded in the tire (that's American for tyre), like a nail or piece of metal?

An update on this, took the car the MR T (for the first time) 1.5hr's of diagnostics, and they don't know that it is.
They have identified the noise when drive the car, but when they get it on the ramp it disappears. The shields are all in place and it's not a wheel bearing. It's a complete mystery.

I hope it's something BIG ! ! !   s:shock:  s:shock:

Then the warranty can sort it    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:
Fingers crossed

Son's of a *****. car is at MrT today, turns out it's something in the gear box Diff.  My Warranty company now say I knew about this before I took out the policy (took out 3weeks ago). which i didn't ! ! ! so they won't pay out if this is the case.

Should of left it a while before I took it in   s:evil:  s:evil:

This is going to be expensive. £600 just to strip the box to get a closer look.

Thanks for the heads up.

Been battling it out with them, and they are going to send an engineer out once MrT has stripped the box, to have a look at the Fault and determine how long it has been this way.

My question is, wouldn't it be impossible to work out with certainty and proof if a fault occurred a couple of weeks ago, or a couple of months?

Does this mean I have a leg to stand on??

kanujunkie

short answer is YES they can

with a mixture of NDT (non destructive testing) techniques available to them and a good old fashioned mark 1 eyeball, you can sus things out quite easily, for instance if a part has been cracked for a while and has finally snapped off, the section thats just snapped off will be shinier than the rest of the metal.

as for haveing a leg to stand on, well yes you do as they wont be able to tell wether it was something that occured inside or outside the last few weeks, theyll just be able to say it occured recently or not and why it happened

hope that doesn't sound too contradictory to the previous coment  s:? :? s:?

Don't most warranty companies stipulate a time period from inception (sorry ate dictionary earlier) to when you can first make a claim, I know that the AA did, about a month. I am with Warrantyworks and I couldn't see anything in there about it though.
ex-TTE Turbo, now Freelander Sport, its not a car its a Landrover!

With Warranty Works you can make a claim anytime, so long as the problem was not apparent before you took the policy out.

As you can imagine, there must be loads of people out there who have taken warranty out because there was something wrong with their car,

The thing is, that's not the case with me, and my claim is completely genuine.
The fact that I have only recently bought the car, I have quotes for warranties for several months, the car has full service history and covered under 30,000 miles and now has a gearbox problem. I feel that I have a pretty good case!

If they do try to stiff me, I'm prepared to take them to the cleaners! ! !

The insurance co. no doubt flags all claims automatically that are within a certain time from writing the policy. Some clerk probably said lets see where this guy (you) will go with it if I turn it down. I'm sure they will be good when you present your case.
You don't happen to have a limited slip differential, do you? Sometimes these can get a little sideways if incorrect oil is used for instance.
Good luck!
