Drivers electric window problem

My recently purchased car came with a faulty driver's window. I checked the window motor ( which looks new!) by putting 12v across the green and red wires and the window went up and down ok. Next I checked the switch and found no continuity so I took the switch apart, cleaned it and bent the connectors and put it back together and everything worked but only for one day. I bought a second hand switch and again everything worked but again only for a day or two.Next step was to wire a universal window switch in which lasted almost a week but then started to blow the fuse when I try to put the window back up. Works ok going down but blows a fuse every time I try to go back up. I'm now stumped. Anyone any ideas of what to check next or is it time for an auto electrician?

Cheers

If it was me the next step would be a second hand motor as it seems to be drawing too much current, blowing fuses and burning out switches. Motors do go bad and they all look new hidden in the door.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried a spare window motor without a window attached and it still blows the fuse!

Presumably that means there is a short somewhere?

Can you trace and check all the wiring for damage or water ingress somewhere?

Going to try and do some basic test with a multimeter and see if I can find anything obvious.

The odd thing is that it is the passenger window fuse which blows (fuse 26) drivers side fuse is ok ::)

That does seem odd!

May be worth taking out every single fuse and replacing one by one. That should make sure they have a good contact as oxidation can occur making a bad connection.
Shouldn't take too long as long as you have a fuse puller and then you know all should be good there at least.

Managed to find a wiring diagram, it's for a LHD car but all wires lead to the body control module. My thinking is that if I had a broken wire in the door bellows then it would also blow a fuse going down as they both use the same two wires to the motor just with the polarity changed. It looks like the BCM has some type of relay in it which I'm hoping is faulty. About £15 to change it so worth a go I think?

Changed the BCM and window work for a few goes before blowing the fuse again!

Given up with the original wiring and ran new wires from the window motor, 12v power and earth to centre console and fitted a universal windows switch.

Now I have 2 working windows  8)
