Hi all.
I had trouble getting the MR2 through the emmissions at MOT time last year. So this year I think its time to replace the sports cat. Its done about 7 years and about 30k so probably struggling to clean the gases enough.

Does anyone know the specs or the actual model sports cat used on the SP240?  I can't see any details on the original invoice for the SP240 conversion or replacement I had last time it needed one. I don't have the facilities to get under the car to see if there are any markings on the cat so I would be grateful if anyone on here knows what I am looking for in specs/make/model for a replacement.

Many thanks
Daryl

Didn't know they did a sports cat, I knew they did a de-cat pipe.

No mention of a de-cat pipe on my conversion invoice. I presume this just replaces the pipework where the precats/standard cat fits?

Just for clarity. The decat pipe I refer to is the post cat not the pre cat.

They definitely did a sports cat. We had one. Briefly.

Not sure what the provenance is. Ours was dead before we got the car so we replaced it quickly.

Any proper exhaust fitter can sort you out. It might have been a 400 cell.
...neutiquam erro.

Call the midlife!

There was a feature on it in a magazine a couple of years back, might've been one of the MR2 magazines or the jap one that went bust but might show up on a google search?

Hi everyone
Just be careful confusing the TTE SP240 and the SP SP240.  I can't imagine why anyone would confuse the two 😂
The TTE kit had a pre-cat and the SP240 version fitted a decat pipe because the precat was enough, just.
The SP kit was available in two versions, the low output mated to an adapted stock cat, the 240 version had a dedicated sports cat, 200cpsi.
Daryl, delighted to hear you're still enjoying the car.  My first suggestion would be to try Cataclean as that may be enough to bring it up to a standard. Failing that, remove the cat pipe and get a decent exhaust place to weld a new cat in. I've heard good things about this place: https://www.redhillclassics.co.uk/

Hi Matt.  Great to see you are still around. I hope you are well and driving something nice (TVR?) I have been using Cataclean (it was recomended to me several years ago) It does seem to perk up the performance but it still struggled last year. Failed first time, passed second go.

I got Redline to change the cat about 7 years ago (same problem with emisssions) but they didn't tell me what they fitted and now I've moved they are too far away. I've found somewhere more local who will be able to replace the Cat but they don't know what to fit. They were hoping there will be some markings on the old one to identify. They did ask if it was a 200 cell so your comments are a great help. They have a local MOT garage they use so they may be able to test the emissions first, but after 7 years it may be best to just replace the cat this year and bite the bullet this year rather than wait until next year.

Thanks for all your hard work on my car back in the day. We've both really enjoyed it and it's been all over Europe over the years.

Regards

Daryl
