Title: My 1999 Blue Lagoon Spyder (PIC HEAVY)
Post by: kostonhumar on September 1, 2015, 12:53
i just got my MR-S about 2 weeks ago,

I will start with what is wrong with it,

-Has a mini disc player
-pulls to one side
-Has a west ham sticker on the read windshield takes up the entire window
-rear quater panels are heavily dented
-spoiler holes in the rear lid
-bent aerial
-deteriorated bushings
-sticky rear brake
-everything is in Km
-soft top made of swiss cheese.

Now what's good with it.

-Has been lowered 6.6
-has a blitz exhaust cat back
-K&n induction kit
-TRD short shift kit
-Very well maintained interior
-electrics are good *except central locking
-very clean head lights
-she's MINE!!
-only cost £700
-56k miles genuine
-almost full service history Japanese and uk services very well maintained.

how in gods name did you get that for 700quid.

edit: Just realised that pull to the left probably isn't talking about tramlining. Do you know the source?

What are the wires on the left of the engine bay? They look an odd colour
Title: Re: My 1999 Blue Lagoon Spyder
Post by: kostonhumar on September 2, 2015, 12:54
lol yet to find out but I think it might be some random earthing cables, il check them for a current and find out where they go. a big list for a little car but hopefully I can get 80% of the car done by the weekend.

I'm in the process of ordering my wrap today, but I need to measure up the panels and find out how much i'm going to need! (if anyone already has the panel measurements I will take them with open arms!)

How very odd! Wonder if the original earth points had gone, so whoever had it before just bodged up some custom earth points. It's not right anyway. Fair bit of rust in there and all. Has this thing had an engine swap at any time?
Title: Re: My 1999 Blue Lagoon Spyder
Post by: Anonymous on September 2, 2015, 14:30
Maybe an attempt at an engine earthing kit?
Title: Re: My 1999 Blue Lagoon Spyder
Post by: kostonhumar on September 2, 2015, 14:38
not entirely sure if im honest,   there is no paper work to suggest an engine swap? thinking of removing them and maybe getting someone to earth it if it's required?

saw a couple of cars hit in akina and akita when I was there last year. pretty crazy!?   s:shock:  s:shock:

Post by: CrazySX on September 2, 2015, 15:31
visually it just looks like a PFL with square plates and a midship badge :s

Whats the interior like?

As for those earth cables, why has it got so many! I would just buy an earth strap and go from the battery to the body and not sure if you need to earth body to engine, as surely the engine mounts cover this.  I am sure someone will come along to correct me if i am wrong  s:) :) s:)

3 things observed:

1. you have AC  s:) :) s:)
2. you have an odd looking stereo with an odder looking stereo surround
3. the wipers and indicator stalks are the other way round.  I quite like that, as if you are right handed you can flick the indicators on and off as you turn.  s:) :) s:)

I believe ac is a standard in Japanese cars? Yes!! The stalk is  annoying but now very cool and  makes more sense as I'm a lefty, always 1 hand on the gears

Yeah they are staggered gonna get them refurbed  and powdered and il be ready to go.

And sure thing it took me 2 hours to do the bonnet as I was trying to make sure there was no bubbles but after I I realised it was ok for a few small ones it was easy. Thinking of doing the engine lid tomorrow.

yeah I want to do all the easy pieces first so if I mess it up I have at least I wrapped as much as possible with what I have.

yeah curves are a biznitch and looking at all the vents and all that I'm a bit hesitant.  I'm doing it in my hallway currently, I do need squeegee out all the air bubbles that are left very tiny ones but according to a guy I know it happens from time to time.

Did you go for the proper 3M (or equivalent) vinyl. It makes a huge difference. The latest stuff even has very fine holes in it so it doesn't create bubbles, great stuff to use!

Bonnet looks good  s:) :) s:)

I have really fallen of the wagon with wrapping it as I get home at 7:00pm and by that time it's dark. But this weekend I'm going to try bash out some side panels or maybe sand down and repair the cracks in the bumper, holes in the skirts and take off the sticker off the rear

It is hard work. Nice collecting parts but then hard to actually do anything. Especially with it getting darker and colder.

I have decided to go oldskool and paint my bits now.  s:) :) s:)

yeah but it's just seemingly endless.
i just find my list get's longer and the stockpile of parts get bigger,

might be grabbing a datesk ECU this weekend

Trying to get a rear drivers side calliper as mine has seized soooo much i lit a cigarette of the disc.  This is a list of things i still have to attack.

tracking/alignment
replace cv gaitors
service car
new rear tires (self inflicted)
replace rear drivers 1/4
replace caliper
replace pads
replace 3 bulbs
replace handbrake cable
tighten gas pedal (reduce the slack)
take off badly attempted earthing kit.
find a battery strap
replace springs
body fill spoiler holes.
sand and body fill JDL
refurb new wheels
wrap car.
clean engine bay
put on pretty engine bay cables and tubes
modify pfl vents wrap in carbon
install stereo + sound system
replace soft top
i'm sure there are other things I just cant think of right now.

best advice i can give you here is to put a number against each task. This way you can do them by priority.  As i had an MOT recently i did all the important stuff first.  It is tempting to do all the pretty stuff as you get more satisfaction when you stand back an admire, but the important stuff gives you peace of mind!

Then have a list of easy wins - Light bulbs, service, new tyres and fit them in when you have lost the will to do other things  s:) :) s:)

Personally i would leave all the bodywork til last, as you want the car to be reliable through the winter months.  Plus the weather is getting colder, so unless you have somewhere cosy to bodywork, i would leave it.  Or pay someone to do it if they can do it cheap enough.  Sometimes you just can't do everything, or the costs of bits nearly equal to paying someone to do it!!!  s:o :o s:o

yeah my old man said the same thing. im lucky.....that i have a 12 month mot (clearly dodgy at time of purchase) so I have time to get it all in order.

well in order of importance I think  this should be it lol I could be wrong lol.

Just a little niggle, you have 2 x no.5 and i would advise to prioritise fitting the springs as you will probably find they are broken anyway, and you should have them done before wheel alignment as the ride height will be different.

i have become quite partial to  the blue and gunmetal but I need to buy some more but haven't gone round to buying it. swapping springs out  soon and replace a seized calliper, i'm kind of attacking it as and when. But I might try and finish the wrapping over the weekend minus the bumpers as there is no way in hell I can wrap jdl  bumpers...( nor fit them as my car doesn't have the ground clearance for them.

good decision, get the car reliable for winter.  i think i will put my TS bumper and skirts on next year now too.  If i break is in the winter i don't really want to be messing around trying to fix it.

I have this dilemma with my TS bumper. I need skirts else it just looks very weird!

If you look at the height difference between before and after the wheel the rear bumper really looks alright.  Almost like a stock bumper with spats. So I would say yay!  s:) :) s:)

That'll be the drains then. They are probably blocked up! Get the side vents off, Pop the 3 or less fasteners at the front of the vent then slide it out.

You will see a drain with a flap. Lift the flap and stick a rod up its ar5e. Keep going in an out until water comes gushing out hahahahaha
