Title: Plastic Window trim revival
Post by: Mikeymead on October 24, 2021, 14:37
Hi, does anyone know of any good tips or products for reviving the plastic window surround trim, mine is looking very tired. I have tried a couple of things with not much luck.

This is how they look.

Many thanks.

I used stretch vinyl tape.  It goes around the bends really well.  Get it all really clean and take your time.

The tape is available on ebay.  I think I used 25mm width.

Or
Mquires metal polish then top finish of choice.
Or
Zaino (16?) perfect tyre shine
Or
Black boot polish

I tried boot polish on my smart. It lasted a few hours.

+1 on the Aerospace 303 though.

Boot polish lasted well for me.

As in proper paste type polish not bottle with a sponge.

Yes, the little tins of wax. I use it on my Doctor Martens and they look good. But not so good on my car.

It was only one application on the car. Maybe I should try more?

Just to add to the above list.

I was applying some
https://detailedonline.co.uk/products/ultima-ceramic-wax-with-added-sio2 today.
Thought, hey why not.
So applied some to the rubber/plastics that run from the door glass round the base of the roof to the other glass.
Well impressed. Surprised. But impressed.

As daft as the metal polish idea may seem
The metal polish works by removing the oxidation. So you get back down to the base. Beneffrom applying a protective layer after. But just getting back to the base goes along way to smartening things up.

WD40

WD-40 can be used on just about everything. It is safe for metal, rubber, wood and plastic. ... Polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic are among the few surfaces on which to avoid using a petroleum-based product like WD-40.
