Last tuning session I had elsewhere was around £450 for the half day, flat fee quoted upfront.

It seems to have fuel in it when level 😀 trying to work out if it just is very sensitive or not, suspect it is.

What does it say when car is level.

If reporting different levels depending on which way parked. Suggests to me it's working.

Maintenance, Problems & Troubleshooting / Fuel Gauge

Anyone else have a very sensitive fuel gauge? Seems to fluxuate a lot on my 2, swinging often between a quarter of tank in variation.

Now immediately I live on a slop (either the passenger side or driver side will be lower) and when the car is facing 1 way or the other and it will swing, but it does seem very variable.

Suppose my key question is are they sensitive or is it one of those sensors given it age I should just replace or is it a bugger job so I should just suck it up 😄

@jvanzyl

I think that is more than reasonable on your part.
With any amount of experience a service provider must be aware of the costs that must be recovered per hour to keep the business viable. That same experience should make him aware of the minimum time he will take to achieve a result and similarly the worst case situation a maximum (to date).
An estimate could be between those figures with a stated hourly rate.
Or, it may be that only one operation can be carried out per day and so be it a short day or a long day a full day is what is charged.

Hello, thanks for the reply, I'll check that out

@Dagnet

My pet theory is to make sure that what you have got is in the correct operating mode before you start adjusting, taking things apart or buying new parts.
To do that make sure that the brake cylinder pistons are freely moving and extended fully by pumping the foot pedal with engine on. I would try that perhaps more than once and then work from there.

That twitches my cynical side I'm afraid, although hopefully the tuner comes with some trusted references.

Yeah.. it's not a great situation to walk into. Ultimately if I turn up and point blank ask for an estimate before we start as well as an approximate rate per hour if that's what he works to and I can't get an answer that's decent I turn around and go home.

Hello, took the car in for the MOT today and found out it failed due to "Offside Rear Parking brake inoperative on one side (1.4.1 (a))".So I took the car home and had a look to see what's going on.

I lifted the rear offside wheel and rotated it with handbrake off, halfway and full. It rotates freely when off, some resistance when halfway and difficult to rotate when full. I did the same with the nearside rear that passed and there's definitely more resistance with handbrake applied. So the offside rear parking brake is kind of operative, but isn't working at full efficiency.

I took the wheel off to see how the handbrake cable connects to the brake caliper and watched it compress and extend as I pull and release the handbrake. It moves ok but not as full range of motion as the working brake. Rear brakes with pedal work fine on both sides.

Any ideas what I should do? Thanks.
