Gutted

After barely having my new 2 for a week, already some careless driver has managed to put a long scratch and dent across the passenger door, even after I parked it in the office car park in broad daylight where there is plenty of room for cars to move about it. Needless to say they didn't leave any contact details.

Anybody know how much it might cost to put right? Will I need a new door skin?

It's probably worth one of those 'Dentmaster' type places having a look before you go to Toyota, they could probably fix it for much less than a dealer - find a good one though.

It was probably just Murphy's Law, what with it being a brand new car and all. I suspect it was a lorry bumper that did the damage. Still, it amazes me how some people just can't see to control their vehicle even at parking speeds. s:(

Worse than the inability to park (heck, we all make the odd mistake) IMHO is the honesty factor.

Mate - the same happened to me - the DAY after i got my car - although it was only a hairline scratch and not a dent.

Still haven't had it fixed yet though as it aint that obvious

I had a dent on the door and had it fixed by one of these specialist who bends it back out using rods with the window down. Was well amazed as it was pretty bad and is now totally unnoticable. Depends how bad the scratch is to is this method would be worth it...

I've had an estimate from Toyota about repairing the damage (a crease and a scratch) caused to my passager door by a careless driver in a car park. It turns out I will need a new door skin and they've quoted me £818 for the job.

Does anyone have an opinion on this price? Has anyone's 2 suffered similar damage? All feedback would be much appreciated!

Have you got a photo of the damage that you can post up here? Maybe some of the guys that have had things like this repared may be able to see if their similar damage cos less elsewhere?

have just got mine back last night from exactly the same thing on the drivers door. Paid £335 and it took 4 days from a little bloke i know, where are you? PM me if you want the address

That really is the best option "a little bloke somewhere".

Its always cheaper, and normally cant tell the difference. Not to sure that these mobile dentmasters are good, few bad stories from the guys here.

Thank you all for your advice so far. It's much appreciated.

I'll try to get a picture of the damage and I'll get another quote from another Toyota dealer just to compare prices. I initially thought that Toyota would be the best bet as I'm a bit concerned about an independent garage not getting the paint colour quite right. But perhaps this shouldn't be a concern as I guess it's just a case of me telling them the right paint code and they should be able to get it.

If I end up claiming on my insurance then I won't mind about the cost!

I'd hope they don't just take the paint code and spray it on... after all paint fades, and so what they spray on would not be the same as what's already there (your cars nice and shiney and new... so less, if any difference).

According to his sig, he has on 03...I'd guess the paint code would a perfect match, even if the car has been under sun all it's life.

Real matching problems start after few years. Even if they manage to do the respray with 100% match and you can't see any difference...you have part of the car with a new paint and part of the car with old paint. They will fade at different pace and the difference will show after some time...you just can't win s:? :? s:?
