When moving the battery to the frunk, what gauge (thickness) wire have people used to run back to the engine bay?

You need to be careful of voltage drop. I used a company on eBay called simply split charge who made them to my length and fitted terminals, I used 25mm2 cable with an inline fuse by the battery

Thanks Mark - so you've had no issue with 25mm2 cable then? I was worried it wouldn't be large enough. What size fuse have you got?

No it's been great, and I use a very small battery with no problems starting or anything untoward. I bought a ctek battery conditioner because I thought I'd have issues with the battery but I haven't needed to use it yet. Not sure what fuse size but I'll check for you

Have you got any photos of how you've joined the cables Mark? I'd be interested to see how it all attaches as I would quite like to do this as well, but want to keep it all neat and tidy, which I'm sure you'll have done!

ill take some.

basically I have a short lead 6mm eye to 8mm eye which goes from battery to fuse holder. Then a long lead with 8mm eye on both ends, going from the fuse holder to a connection terminal in the engine bay where the battery used to be. I routed the cable down the passenger side.

the only complication I have is that I installed a battery master switch in my centre console.

Here are a few pictures

Engine bay connector box screwed down to the engine mount where the old battery was

Very useful - thanks Mark. Any idea what size fuse you used?

Size as in rating or physical dimensions?

mr-ed_smt

#34
Rating - I presume its a "mega" type?

Yep it's a mega fuse, I'll go and check the rating, I can't remember sorry!

Think it's a 175A looking at it

Cheers Mark - thought it might be around 170A.

What length did you buy out of curiosity? would save me getting a ball of string out.

Also roughly what route did you go? is there anything you would change if you did it again?

You could do this instead

@1979scotte that's interesting!

I was gonna do the usual and stick a varley red top(or similar) up front with a battery killswitch on the centre console so I don't have to disconnect the batteries every time I take the car off the road.

now Im torn  :-\

May not be as easy as it looks tbh.
My V6 only uses the bottle as an overflow so wasn't to difficult to move.
Especially as I didn't have to do it myself.
