The question I have is this - As most of the studs that hold it in place have sheared and it is mostly held in place with plastic ties - Would it be detrimental to remove it altogether?

Hi mine was like that, if i can remember most of the brackets do unbolt, all i did was carefully drill out and re-tap them to 6mm.
About 40 mins work , fitted m6 pan head studs and coppeslip for good measure.
RACING, because football, cricket, rugby and golf only need ONE BALL
