Agreed. T-Cut-ing is a skill on its own, and I've found it usually requires another finer compound afterwards to repair the damage caused.

Aii i fid t cut next to useless you may remove the scratch a little but you then end up with more swirls.

^^^^ + 1. Plenty of info if you search on 2 bucket method and lambswool mitts microfibre towels etc.

It's not a big car and if done properly doesn't take that long

It has to be hand wash only as its just too risky letting anyone near it with a sponge and chamois

I feel your pain. Happens a lot. I have a roadster friendly neighbourhood cat who loves to use a soft top as a sun lounger. Getting to the sunbed requires a bit of claws. Best bet is to correct your paint with a DA polisher (if you have access to one). This is a damn good guide http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=63859. Most scratches will come out out with a bit of persuasion without needing professional help.

Clay bar remives contaminants in the paint, contaminants are basically small particles on the top coat, these make the surface very rough, what clay barring does is removes all these contaminants, and makes your paint have a better finish as there no longer there another massive plus is how god damn smooth your clear coat is afterwards! It is the best money you could spend! The process: 1. clean car make sure as clean as you can get it 2. When applying the clay you should use either the specialised, claying lubricant sprays or like i did was to use my detail spray, this ensures that the area is lubricated preventing any possible damage to the paint, it is applied by circular motions using moderate pressure you will notice after doing a area not only that the claying will become easier (due to the removal of the contaminants) but the clay will have the contaminants on it then, you need to fold the clay into itself and repeat this after maybe each panel. Make sure that you use plenty of spray if the clay tugs then your not using enough. Do this process panel by panel after each panel wipe off the clay and detail spray until no residue left when i did mine i went around the whole car buffing with detail spray. Then the final step to protect the paint again would be to apply wax.

Hope this was off help as I've just hammered this iPhone keyboard  s:) :) s:)

I personally have found tcut great for removing tiny surface scratches. You may get fine swirls, but they only seem to be noticeable on darker coloured vehicles for me, and it depends on just how much you use and how vigorously you rub. I recently tcut out some scratches caused by my car cover, with near perfect results.
I also just used claybar on her for the first time, made an amazing difference, got rid of all the tar and crud I never noticed was there. Just make sure you wax after using clay bar.

1: Wash the car first.

2: Use claybar as per instructions above (but don't re-wax yet).

2: Put the tiniest blob of tcut onto a soft cloth (cut up t-shirt is great, microfibres are a bit too textured) and apply in a circular motion, trying not to cover too much area that doesn't need it.

3: Make sure to wipe off any excess tcut after.

4: After half hour to let it settle, re-wax the car

Here's some before and after pics of mine:

Before - sorry, not the clearest pic! These scratches were caused by my car cover.

£20!? did you have previous work done there, usually see prices at few hundred at least. be worth a trip up north even with petrol cost for that price

I used to use Tcut quite a lot years ago (there's a lot more choice now and the Internet for advice of course for choosing other products). I think the key is to use a plain cotton cloth but always use the same spot on the cloth for polishing, just adding a little more polish onto the same spot as needed,  after a while it doesn't soak into the cloth and it suddenly starts to work properly as the polish breaks down and starts to cut the oxidation etc.  Never ever let it dry on the car, polish off all residue as you go a bit at a time. If you let it dry it will never come off (you will have to then Tcut it again to remove the dried Tcut).
