17" aloys what tyre size & pressure please?

hi, can someone please tell what tyre size i should buy for 17" front & back & could you please tell me what the correct tyre pressures should be.

sorry i should of been more specific from the start....
i already have 205/40/17 x4/all round & have just discovered that this is wrong so can someone please tell me what i have to do to make it safe..
can i fit 225/45/17 to the back????

Hi Lee,

Yes, if you are wanting to keep the 17's on then you can do this to give the stagger you need

You could fit them, but the rear of the car will rise by about 20mm!!  I would suggest 225/35.

Basically the tyre depth of a 205/40 is 40% of 205 which equals 82. When replacing with different widths you are trying to keep the rolling radius the same size, so you have to find a tyre depth similar to 82.

So the depth of a  225/45 is 45% of 225 which equals 101
A 225/35 is 35% of 225 which equals 86. Close enough, and probably cheaper.

All this assumes your wheels are all the same size though. Strictly anybody swopping to 17" should try and get wider rims at the back than at the front, as the OEM is, but it is appreciated these are not usually available "cheaply" at the Halfrauds type of outlet.

If you are just going to change the rear only though, make sure they are the same make/model as the front, or all your expense will be wasted.

they are nankang ns2 & they dont do 225/35 in 17"
any other suggestions ????

i could buy 2 new 18" rims
would this solve the problem???

if so what size tyres would i need to buy??

18" will make it look like a rollerskate and be incredibly hard ride

I've got 225 45 17's on theback and they fit and look great.
