Front brake caliper pad support plates

Which support plate is the Upper & which is the lower? Both look almost identical, One has a pierced inner face that goes towards c/l of the disc
That one I have refitted as the top one as thats how it was when dismantled. The other has a return (bent edge) on the same side.
The workshop Manual cautions against fitting plates transposed but the accompanying drawing is not much use.
So has anyone a definitive answer?

Look at the dirt pattern on the old pads you have taken off, its pretty simple then to work out the layout, cant remember of the top on my head the configuration sorry.
