TF237

Picked up my new (to me) roadster on Wednesday. My first convertible, my first sports car and my first MR.

Previously had a range of cars, including an EP3 Type R and Mercedes W204.

The car is TF237, and came complete with the certificate. 1 owner, part history, 81,000 miles.

After picking up the car from the dealer I've fitted new tyres all round, cleaned out the drain holes and conditioned the hood. I also removed the visors for a bit more visibility.

I've called her 'Maru'.

I'll keep her garaged most the time, and I'm hoping to do most of the maintanence myself. I've got an 57 plate Yaris SR 1.8 that I'll daily.

Thanks guys. Oil and filter change today, Castrol Edge 5W30 and an OE Toyota filter. K&N panel filter too, had to move quite a bit to get into that air box!

Meanwhile, noticed the middle section of the air intake pipe that runs from the side vent to the air box has fallen off. Should have slightly cooler air coming in in now!

The Continental Premium Contact 2 tyres I had fitted last week seem to grip well, will see how we get on.

Debadged the rear (kept the TF emblem) and replaced the front Toyota badge with the JDM equivalent. Looks quite smart and a bit more incognito!

Haven't got the horn working yet, but the resistor cancels the airbag light okay. Insurer asked for £19 extra, so properly declared.

Got the horn working, used the wire supplied with the boss kit (green/yellow) with spade connector, to extend the horn wire which comes from the clock spring. I covered the join with electrical tape to stop it rubbing on the inside of the boss, which was causing the horn to sound.  This lot plugged into the raised tab on the horn button.

The instructions had shown using the new wire to go from the 2nd tab on the horn push, to the silver ring/spacer, which sits between the wheel and boss. However, this made the horn sound continuously, and the existing horn wire was too short, so assume instructions are generic for different cars.

Wheel feels great, but the steering will not self centre like before. I'm assuming the boss must be binding on the plastic casing which houses the indicator stalks etc, so will see about filing, cutting into this later.

All in all, considering the cost of the wheel/boss, trickiness of install, hassle of calling insurer and potential MOT issues and loss of airbag, I wouldn't say it's worth it for a 16mm reduction in wheel diameter.

Still, I'd always wanted a Prototipo wheel for that classic Porsche look/feel so I'll stick with it for a while and see how I go.

Can always refit the OE wheel later.
