Howdy All,

I have a new to me 2001 yellow MR2, so far I've replaced the steering lower UJ and the rear subframe. Now I want to turn my attention to the inside.

The first problem to fix is the radio display. 95% of the time the display is blank, nothing, the other 5% it shows me the radio station and other info.

I don't think I've changed any settings to turn on/off the display. Could it be a loose wire? or is there a setting on the unit somewhere? I've checked the handbook, nothing that I can see in there to try.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers,

The Other Stu

Hello and Welcome :)

Am I allowed to say "Bin it and get a new one?"
I paid £160 odd for a Pioneer DAB with reversing camera etc.

The head unit (including Sat Nav) from the GT86 fits and there seem to be plenty about.
Alternatively, one of the breakers on Facebook will probably sell you a genuine Toyota one for very little (people often give them away)

I know the Halfords JVC double din one for £89 is very popular because I keep seeing people with it in their cars  :D

Are you using the Fisher Price standard issue unit? If so my suggestion is to replace it!
1MZFE, Emerald ECU, LSD, BC coilovers, custom middle & front under brace, F / R strut brace. Slotted discs & yellow pads, Blue flame exhaust.
Carrera leather seats, Davids bars, Focal subwoofer & voce speakers & bling !
TRD Stage 2 F & R spoilers,  Haltezza bonnet, C1 side vents, JDL rear panel

M.J.S

I like Fisher Price, I can understand it ;)
I'd like to keep it cheap and cheerful, if I'm going to spend more on this car I think seat covers would be next.
I forgot to add 4 new Toto proxies and a laser wheel alignment done.

Sounds like there is not a lot of love for them then.

In my mind it's got to be a loose connection somewhere. Maybe I'll have a prod around back there.

If anyone wants to get rid of a Fisher Price stereo, let me know! :)

Where are you? I've got a spare fisher price radio.

M.J.S

I'm just outside Swindon, that's a kind offer how much are you looking for the stereo?

SteveJ

A UK 2001 car would have had the Sony double-din unit as standard - does it have small buttons or big OAP friendly buttons? Small = Sony, Big = Panasonic/Toyota OEM 'Fisher Price'

jonbill

You're welcome to it for cost of
Postage. I'll weigh it and see what it would cost by hermes in the morning.

M.J.S

Thanks chaps, SteveJ, you're right it's a Sony rather than Toyota branded.

Jonbill, thanks very much for the offer, if it is still on and the postage is not huge/it's not too much hassel for you I'm in.

An upgrade to Fisher Price, my 3yr old would be proud!

jonbill

Yep you're still welcome to it - the loom/plugs are different between the two so you'd need to figure out an adapter/harness. I'm sure there'll be a thread about it on here somewhere.

The Fisher-Price connects directly to the car loom. The Sony has an adapter loom that you can unplug. You will need to locate the additional connector that will be hidden under the carpet beneath the stereo.

jonbill

Thanks. I forgot to do this today. Will do it tomorrow.

M.J.S

Thanks SteveJ I'd have been looking for the other connector for ages!

Jonbill, no rush only when you have some free time. Thanks again for the offer.

I've found a couple of how to remove the stereo, looks a little fiddly.

Lots of good info on this forum👍

Looks like £6.49 to send with Hermes. PM me your address & phone  number if you want to go ahead.

Jonbill You have a message.

Can you pick a charity and I'll chuck £20 their way as a little thank you?

Wait until you've got it and you're sure it works - I've never plugged it in!
I think there's a way to contribute it to club funds... @shnazzle?

Jonbill, money sent by PP, no rush for the stereo though.

StuC, cheers for the donation link, I've done that as well. This site has already saved me a ton of dosh. I'm sure it will continue to do so!
