Thought I would have a go at swapping the fisher price radio for my newly acquired PFL radio.
Got FP out so far so good.

Compared the back for the connections etc.  (:< >:) :'( (:< >:) why or why did I think it would be a straight swap. Muppet.

So are they any adapter type wiring arrangements or will will I have to put the radio back up for sale?

Justin.D

The PFL radio has a harness - sony connector to toyota connector.  have one here, but I'll need it for when I refit my PFL unit

The FL radio doesn't need this as it's a toyota unit with toyota connectors

There will be options you can buy separately - I'll look around and post back

This connector will plug into the Sony PFL unit and convert to ISO - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-16-Pin-ISO-Wiring-Harness-Connector-Adaptor-Car-Stereo-Radio-Loom/171905073643?epid=1441443682&hash=item28065741eb:g:OU8AAOSw8DJaHXQ3

This one will convert from ISO to Toyota - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000XUQZ4M/?coliid=I1X10L4B3PT9CO&colid=JDBSVSK3PRBI&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The original one is fitted straight through - Sony to Toyota connectors so won't have the extra ISO connection in the middle. Alternatively contact the guy you got it from and see if he has the loom still

It's a decent bundle of wires to fit behind the unit but it will fit and will work.

Shout up if I can help any further

Nope - the original was Toyota --> ISO --> Sony with an intermediate connector as well.

Really? I thought mine was straight through. {heads off to the roof to check}

Perhaps they did different ones. Mine is definitely straight through - Sony to Toyota

Cheers for replies folks.
The ebay link looks promising but will ask seller as well.

I can visualise the sony 16 end, but on the back of the FL radio(pic at top) there are 3 blocks.

To make it even more confusing there are 4 blocks in the car. Some are unused

How many were plugged in on the FL unit you've removed? I'm pretty sure (Can't be 100% as mine is PFL) that the loom I've linked to should be fine

See attachment for clarity - I'm sure all we use in the 2 are the CN701-1 and the CN701-2 blocks. The others are definitely not connected on mine

Feel free to shout up and even pop over if you want another set of eyes on it

All the blocks were connected up.
Car came with a remote 6 disc player.
Might account for the extras.

Justin.D

Yep. That'll do it.

The CN701-2 isn't needed in our cars as we have no rear speakers. The Toyota loom I linked to above only needs 1 block connected, power and front speakers

Cheers

Makes me wonder now if the plugs were just plugged in for neatness.

As one that likes to try and support local business wher I can. I popped in to the local car radio ICE  outfits.
Presented picture of the back f the two units and a print out of the Harness @Justin.D linked to.

2 harnesses are required. I swear they are the same as JD linked to. And the price for both £32  :o
The 2 JD linked to about £5.38 all in DELIVERED!  WTF

Needless to say I left with grape juice tokens in tact.

Triggers duly pulled.

Cables duly arrived and with a flexi Friday afternon. Set about changing the radio again.

Out came the fisher price. Connected Sony to iso cable. Connected Iso to Toyata cable. Coneected Toyota cable to 2.
Which leaves me with 2 blocks floating in the breeze.
Reveresed the above and put Fisher price back in. Again.
Will be leaving it in as cannot be ar5ed with it.

@Ardent there is a difference in supporting and propping up, very noticeable in this case!

Sorry to see that your swap around did not work out, good job you didn't take the local route.

Justin.D

Those blocks are not plugged in on my PFL. I think we all have them, just not plugged in. Did you try it before reverting back?

@Ardent were you consuming grape juice whilst try to perform this transplant?
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Not mid afternoon.
All blocks were connected to back of fisher price.

Ardent

@Justin.d

Powered up. Sound came out of speakers. No means talking to cd changer and seems you need some sort of other cable to fool unit into allowing use of phono inputs for another source.

Justin.D

OK. Looking at the connectors you have left over, 1 is the CN702 (from my attachment above). This looks to be for the CD multichanger you have in your FL. The Sony unit will not run this, so can be left off if you decide you can do without it

The other connector (larger of the 2 leftovers) looks to be the CN700 - this looks like it has data and speed sense amongst others - possibly for the fisher price units with basic GPS. Again, I don't see why this would be needed

Using the connectors you have, the Sony unit will be fine, the only feature you will not have will be the multichanger

Hang on - mid air collision with posting

For using the phono ports just a simple RCA to 3.5mm cable will normally be enough to plug into a headphone port on a phone - note  - not all mobiles have a headphone jack anymore

Something like this (Depending on model of phone)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-Stereo-Jack-Plug-to-2-RCA-Phono-Plugs-Audio-Cable-Length-1-5m-4-92ft/222815812289?hash=item33e0db7ac1:g:~uAAAOSwLjxab2vv

Appreciate your input.
Can you recall a post on here recently about a generic unit that fits all toyotas.
Thought I had bookmarked it. But no.

With no cd changer comm or ability to use the aux input.

The sony will be back up for sale shortly.

Ardent

Collinson 2.

Tried that.
The unit needs something pluged into its changer pirt to activate the aux.

You need a Sony unilink plug thing to use rca cables.
This sort of thing:
