wheel refurb advice?

What are my options for smartening up my OEM wheels? I assume blast and powdercoat?

Recommended places, either in the SE or including postage?

Time is NOT a concern - this is for my summer wheels, so I'm only looking to do this before March at the earliest (unless I've got a track-day, I'll probably leave it to Easter before I put the Yoko's back on)....

I think D.Sloan has his done by CityPowderCoaters and pays about £50(probably less as he gets them done regularly)per wheel.
I will have to check on FB as I may be misremembering.

Around £50 per corner,   depending on where you go and condition of your wheels regarding pitting / curbing etc.
Most will want tyres removed prior. Make sure they gas out as part of process, or the coat will lift prematurely.

I have used The Wheel Specialists in Ferndown in Dorset - they were very good; take the car in and wait and watch. Full refurbishment and then powdercoat. But a bit more expensive at about £90/wheel. But I got a discount mentioning the club. There is a branch in Farnborough if nearer you. You can phone them for a quote.

RE "The Wheel Specialists" - sounds interesting - and yes, Farnborough is a LOT closer to me (40mins of lanes vs 2hrs of motorway)...

@krazysteve - I'd be after FL and I'm guessing he wants to sell the wheels, not swap them over...

I wasn't popular, but the the first job was shocking!

Scotte - did your guy's price incl taking the tyres off, putting them back on and re-balancing them?

I had my fronts done by a specialist in Northampton.  They did a good job (the finish is good and the colour match is excellent) but:

The advertised price was £50 per wheel, add to that removal and disposal of tyres (they were poor) and vat!!!  Also they took a week instead of the advertised 24 hours.

I also paid my local tyre fitter another £20 for fitting and balancing the new tyres. 

It pays to find out what you get for the advertised price.

I can't believe £20 per wheel is going to pan out!

Not as cheap as online but it was convenient.

I agree... I'm setting my sights on removal, refurb and refit the tyres (incl balancing) for £200 all-in.

There's a place in Crawley, wheel works I think. I used them before, they did a really good job, if you take the car in you get a discourtesy car. Funnily enough I have a set of pfl wheels on the drive that I'm planning to take over to be done in black and get some new tyres on at the same time. Probably won't get it done this side of Christmas though

I have used Wheel Works in Crawley and while they are not the cheapest, I can vouch for their service. I had all four of my corroded FL wheels refurbished here and and they look as good 20 months on as the day I collected them.

If you enjoy a bit of DIY there's always the option of painting them yourself with aerosol cans. I did mine 2 years ago and tracked the car good few times and holding up nicely. Reason I chose this option was due to seeing and hearing about alloys breaking on track / fast road after being subjected to the heat that powder coating is applied. May be an old wife's tale but I also enjoy a good bit of DIY. It cost me about £50 in cans of primer, paint and lacquer and around 15 hours of OCD including prep work which included a few lacquer fails and cutting back to reapply. I had the tyres off to work on them and if you do this make sure you sand back where the tyre bead sits and over the face where the hub meets the wheel as the paint will rub and loosen / flake off around these points and give a leaky bead and believe me from experience the thickness of a layer of paint coming off the mounting point can make a wheel wobble on track! All in all a most satisfying job to do, if Ferrari paint their wheels it's a good enough method for me

Mwahhh... you´d better refer to Lexus or so as Ferrari may be a high end branden and offer high tech performance but quality wise it is not the golden standard.

The ´best´ as in most durable is powder coating; no secret there, but with proper preparation there is nothing wrong with painting with proper preparation. Just observed that ´Fewwawi´ is more a success of marketing image than a quality standard.
