Single DIN adptor plate needed - Is this the correct one?

Just wanted to check with the experts on here to make sure I am looking at the correct part for my stereo fitment before I go ahead and buy it.  The car has got a nice looking Pioneer DEH-7300BT head unit installed, and that is fine for me so it won't need changing.  However, it's been poorly fitted, and the surround is clearly the wrong one, as you can see from these 2 photos:

I've seen a single DIN fascia panel on ebay which looks like it should fill the double DIN space, but I'd like a 2nd opinion if possible, to make sure this is the part I need.  It seems very cheap to me, which is always a worry, ha ha! Anyway, here's the link:

One last thing, I noticed the electric aerial doesn't work.  The radio reception is fine, but the mast doesn't retract when the ignition is turned off (I can hear the motor turning, so I guess the wire inside must be broken).  Is this an easy fix?  I had an MX5 years ago, and that was quite a common problem, which was fairly easy to rectify by replacing the inner cable.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

It looks like the right part on ebay, I'm sure someone will come along and keep you right.

The cage for the headunit will need changed, the one in the photo is far to big for the stereo  :withstupid:

Thanks mate, that is good to know.  I wanted to ask because the fascia plate was a lot cheaper than I was expecting - And that almost NEVER happens, ha ha!

I hadn't even considered the cage part, I assumed they were all the same size... I'll have to do some more digging and find a suitable one, but if that DIN plate turns out to be correct I'll be a happy bunny!  The stereo is actually quite firmly in place, and doesn't rattle or move, so I dread to think what's going to be holding it in there when I take it apart...  ;D

I've downloaded a user manual for the Pioneer, and it's actually better than I was expecting, because it's got Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling - RESULT!  I need to check if the microphone is installed, but I've found a suitable one for £9.99 so that's no problem if it's missing.  This car just gets better and better!  :D

I'd be a bit hesitant with that one - the tabs don't seem to correspond to where they should be. I got this kit which allows for double DIN later if needed.

It has tabs for all different kinds of cars and you just saw off the ones you don't need. The four that are left are in the same spots as the original head unit. You wouldn't need one of those metal cages at all as it just screws into the sides of the new mount.

However the main issue is that you don't have the original outer bezel which the product I linked to fits inside. You can see in my attached picture. That's the bit that makes it all look good.

Might be worth a try with the one you linked to in case that is designed to fill the whole space though. Hard to say from the pics.

Thanks for taking the time to reply mate.  It looks like this is a bit of a minefield, so I'll probably just take it into a car audio shop and see what they suggest.  It will be easier to get someone to look at it who knows what they're looking at.  Not really a priority at the moment, so no worries if it takes a while to sort out.

I've been looking at various YouTube videos showing the electric aerial mast repair, and that looks like another job for next year when the weather improves, ha ha!

When you have got the aeriel going up and down, unless you want to listen to the radio all the time, you may decide that you prefer the aeriel down. If that is the case have a look at the first thread in this section - Using the passenger window switch for something else.

I was relieved to see that the aftermarket Sony head unit I fitted only raises the aerial when it's actualy in radio mode. It stays down in Bluetooth/cd. Unlike the facelift headunit which puts the aerial up for good measure even if you're listening to a CD!

Cheers for the tip about the passenger window switch.  I had already seen that thread, and it sounds like an excellent mod that I'll definitely look at sometime in the future.  Obviously I'll wait until I've tried out the head unit properly first, to see if the aerial only extends when the radio function is selected.  When I first bought and drove the car I had the radio switched off, and didn't notice the aerial motor, but after trying out the stereo with the car sat on my driveway it was obvious the motor was running when I switch the ignition on and off, so I'm hoping it will be the same as Ben's Sony.  If so, problem solved!

After looking at the photos of Ben's installation again, it looks like I am indeed missing the original plastic surround, so the ebay ones I've seen won't solve my problem. I guess I'll have to look out for a car that's being scrapped to source that bit.  Not a problem, these are all little niggles that can be sorted over time.

If you are looking for a scrapped car, try Dean Rozier or Dick Sloan who are specialist MR2 breakers.  Details in the affiliates section.

Cheers for the heads up.  I've sent a Facebook message to Rutland MR2, because they are only 30 mins away from me.  Not had a reply yet though, so I don't know if they have got any in stock.  While I was looking at their FB page I noticed they have 10 sets of leather seats for £150 fitted, so that is going to be tempting....... lol.

I phoned Dean when I needed parts, others have mentioned that he is more of a chatter than a facebooker so give him a call if you don't hear back in a while

Thanks for the tip mate, I'm not in a rush to sort this out so I'll probably just pop over to see him sometime early in the new year anyway.
