Hello, I've done a quick search but couldn't seem to find a thread for aftermarket/alternative seats that people have fitted in their roadsters. I've seen some people put seats from the Honda S2000, Civic Type-r and Mazda RX-8 and was wondering what else people may have done. Could we start a thread with pics of your seats, what they are, how easy they were to fit, rough cost and your general thoughts on how good they are compared to standard please?

The Mk.3 from LusoMotors:

Cost me 450€ for the set incl. shipping.

Put them on two OEM adjustable driver frames; thus a LHD and a RHD seat base.

This is not the lightest solution for the seat mounting but this way I have lightweight buckets I can adjust the angle of ánd easy access to the rear cubby, using the OEM mounting points.

@JB21 Off-topic, but that suede wheel has serious grab appeal! Been eyeing one up myself but I'll wait until my insurance is up for renewal in Nov

Very common and easy is a pair of seats from a celica

Remember majority of seats you fit from standard type road cars will be heavier.

Also pre face-lift seats are lighter.

Corbeau recliners for me from a clio 182 on clio subframe.

A bit of cutting and drilling to get the frames to fit, bolted directly to the floor pan.

Having a pfl meant even most after market seats were a marginal weight gain only. Reclining ones nothing.

I'm quite happy with my S2000 seats. Keep in mind however that they don't slide as far back as the stock seats do.

Prompted by an observation about legality there is the matter of that and periodic inspection concerning seats too.

I don´t know how the MoT is but on the continent the rules only permit seats if you have the modification entered in the vehicle documentation. Thát is only possible if the seat comes with the appropriate homogation papers mentioning this particular car model ánd come accompanied by a declaration of the work done by a registered garage.

This in effect means that seats from say a Honda or not homologated after market ones will see the car fail.
The leather S2000 seats above are likely to pass undetected unlike ´MOMO´or ´Corbeau´ marked or otherwise visibly standing out seats.

This is an additional reason for me to stick with the OEM rails/mountings; quick swap.

A word of caution for those considering S2000 seats: Not only do they not slide as far back, they also sit just a tiny bit higher than the stock seats. Really quite marginal, but you will notice it. I just ordered a set of lowering seat rails, but those are pricey. So take that into account.

UK wise as long as the seatbelt/airbag functionality per car model is as it should be then there's no need to inform any government body and there shouldn't be any issues come MOT.

However, as we all know, you're obliged to notify your insurer of any such changes at the time of change.

I've just bought a pair.  Can you elaborate on the 'not going as far back' ...  are you meaning the runners don't allow as far back, or the physical shape of the seats don't allow it?   It shouldn't be a problem as I'm 5'8".. but sometimes I have the OEM seats squeaking behind me.  If.anyone knows of a how-to to modify the seat squab to allow the bum lower, post up please.

No I think the runners themselves are just a bit shorter. There is still some space behind the backs of the seats. You should be fine at 5'8". I'm gonna see how it feels with the lowering rails, and possibly adapt them a bit to have the whole assembly sit further back.

Absolutely, they're from a company called Back Yard Special and I ordered them on Nengun.com
Of course these will have to be adapted to fit the MR2, just like normal S2000 seat rails would. I have done one already, tomorrow I'll do the other one.

The general misconception is that cushioning means comfort, I does not. Fít means comfort.
The crux is that soft does not distribute pression, hard does.
Cuchioning is a short cut to creat a one size fits all.

I'm more concerned that I can't see where you've put the wiring loom for the seat heaters ;)

If only the JDM ´B´ version would have been availeble. No electric windows nor mirrors either...
