Hi guys kinda a project a guess, as alot of you aware i had a gorgeous blue face lift 2 which i had a accident in and was written off (pictures of car pre accident everywhere including my profile) ive now got a 2000 pre Fl which is mechanically sound Matt rebuilt engine, the car is in very good nic for its age. Car has 96k on the clock and money provided im going to try and get this one to the same standard that i had the other 2, there will be very few engine mods to speak off put there will be mechanics here and there alot will be me tarting up the body work, some things may be interesting for people to get a idea of machine polishing, most of it people will already know s:) :) s:) ill try put links to guides as i go along that might also be helpful, anyway enough babble ill try keep the thread progressing with content and also my mods as i go along. I received the car from Matt already started so to speak car has Refurbed alloys and new tyres, decatted manifold and clear side repeaters so that one was knocked of the list.

Power Flow exhaust! DONE 09/8/14
This was abit of a battle, i polished a car for it, cost me about £25 petrol and some product.
I got the exhaust with the driver pipe and tip slightly sheared from the back box, had that welded then, fitted figured out need the drivers side bracket, so i removed 1 of the standard mounts for exhaust cleaned it up, and the lads that welded the back box but that on and sealed around the area another good job!
Mount:

Fix Flexi's: So the Exhaust flexi's have been a big problem for me as a lot of you know, finally had them sorted, at first i swapped the cat for another one i picked up all was well the car was scary quiet, i then fitted the powerflow thats above, worked lovely for couple weeks then the 2nd lot of flexi's started blowing! nightmare! so i finally gave in i got local garage to fit new flexi's this job could have been done alot cheaper however they did do a cracking job.
Before with Gungum as temporary fix.

Bought a Unichip GP, this isnt a total success as the ECU isnt really remap-able in this country... however the map on it is for a TTE exhaust, decated stock manifold and a induction kit, as this is very close to what i have got i will getting the car dyno'd on the stock ecu then comparing with ecu. Currently the ECU will stay in the box i have tested it in the garage and it does run well. This is the only mod i wont be declaring to the insurance as i wont be using it on the road if it is a better map that the stock ECU it may be used just on track.
So ive had a little go at track fun at three sister, and i really enjoyed it learnt so much about the car and about driving it and driving in general. This is something im definitely going to continue, next one is three sisters at Wigan again on the 9th of November, below is a link to FB as its the only decent video i can find and i cant figure out how to get the file.

Things to do:
Uprate pads and Disks Christmas present to myself.
Get the Rear Spats painted up that i purchsed earlier in the year
Fit the AEM Induction kit that im buying of here.
This is what i want to get to, and hopefully do the mods i wanted to do that didnt get a chance to! this is my old motor that i was just about where i wanted it to be.

Update 10/10/16
So. Time do a update. This Project hasn't been properly updated for 2 years :O
So a couple of years ago I did my first track day first time out spun it, no big deal, its part of the learning curve. I learnt a tremendous lot about how to o drive the mr2 and how crutial the balance is threw corners, I made some changes including more bracing and the toyo r888's my times came down.
I then became frustrated by civic type r's and the likes holding me up or even overtaking me on the straights. I decided I needed more power, a opportunity arose to buy a turbo'd 2. This car is well known, I decided that the car wouldn't work for me as I do a lot of miles and on track the body kit would be trashed. The turbo kit is a quite rare Thor racing custom kit, it runs charge cooling and a gt28 turbo. So the plan grew to swap the engine/box and turbo into my blue car. This all occurred June 2015.
So the cars went down south to Rich's the turbo's engine came out. It then got painted candy apple red with a flake (because race car). Sadly nothing went as smoothly as we planned it got to the point where the engine was in but would not run on the link. The cars stayed down tehre for a good 6 months as I was un able to get them the 305mile journey home.
Come March myself and good pal Mr Sloan drove down to essex fitted 2 softops on the way down blue came back on the A frame and a not very happy Red car drove home it was reluctant to start this turned out to be a connector that hadn't been connected after that she started no bother. I was at this point in the middle of buying a house, so I decided to sell the Red car having tidied it back up to help with the whole house moving.
So blue went into the parents garage. Where problem solving begun. The engine would not run on the Link Storm ECU, it had ran before transplant. At this point I know completely nothing about ECU's and engine wiring.
I spent hours on the phone to the lads at link out in New Zealand I gradually began building my knowledge. We basically isolated it down to the fact that the link was not picking up engine speed so Cam/Crank sensors.
At this point I had a look at both sensors and the crank sensor earth was not connected. Thought walla this will work now. However at some point in time due to the stress put on the wiring harness cables have snapped off the harness block, so this made no difference at all. The next theory is that the crank sensor is goosed.
At this point due to things changing in life. I lost interested in the car and sought a different friends group in the form of my golfing pals.
I said at this point and all summer I will finish it in the winter.
So come the end of September I have now jumped head first back into the project. I have acquired all the parts to build a new harness as the old one cannot be saved. This is going to be put together starting on the 10/10/16. Whilst ive been acquiring other parts for the harness. There was another issue through all the swap the clifford alarm basically shat itself. So that has now been cut out. I have also fit a TRD short shifter and new speakers. Last week I tackled fitting a sub frame that I had renovated earlier on in the year as the old one was swiss cheese.
Through out all this ive been driving sable FL i picked up locally.
So now, the currently job list.
Fit interior plastics
Build Harness
See if car runs if not change crank sensor and fire up the link software. If that doesn't work blow it all up and find a new hobby.
Clean the brake disks up and calipers
Fit wheels
Take to MOT with HB cables which are now seized
Hopefully Pass MOT
Have full Geo done!
Drive car and deal with any teething issues going forward.
Mod Fun begin s:) :) s:)
Will update further and add more useful links as i go along.
Hope its not too boring. Any question welcomed, if you need any links such as fitting guide and where to buy and ive missed it off let me know.
Thanks for reading.
Looking good, I saw the de-dimplator on Jay67s and it does look rather tidy, in considering doing it on mine at some point, I say go for it.
Aii probably will order with key hole covers which might go to next months treats and possible the lip spoiler but im thinking of changing this month spend to the prolex lowering fk springs im about to add to the list haha.
Wait?! Do you work at Calleva Park by any chance? .... If yes, i'm usually in the slightly dirty looking red MR2 (with the rattly exhaust s:oops:  s:oops: ) round the corner...
Walked past your car (i think) a little while ago. Very jelly. If it is your car, the paint work is looking superb. GJ. Although the side intakes could do with a bit of TLC .... s:D :D s:D
I dont sadly i work for a BAE hehe.
Looking good.
Don't see the fuss about the de-dimpling though.Just paint it s:) :) s:) I like the dimples
Aii looked at the price and thats now off the list when i get on the pc i might have a look this weekend about painting.
Progressed, tidied, added s:) :) s:)
Big weekend plannned!
Replacing drivers side head light due to it being cracked, replacing wheel arch line due to lack of clips leading to a hole developing, also picknig up some other little missing clips and bolts.
Then sunday i plan to rub down all the rear suspension etc and heat shields and paint them for rust/weather protection due to removing the nappy and it should also inmprove the look in the engine bay.
hello pal it looks grrreat wot is iron x???? how do u get rid of scratches and make it shine like this wud like mine to look like this any advice much appreciated god job!!!!
Iron x is m http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-an ... d_726.html (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/carpro-iron-x-500ml/prod_726.html) m
I went through various stages to get my paint half decent, ill go through the main steps, first being clay bar this removes all the contaminents from the paint basically removes and little particles of dirt, after this the paint is massively smoother. next step is to remove the main scratches i used a machine polisher cutting pad and cutting compound, there are manual porducts out there. working in a 1metre square at a time i will cut doing 2 passes that ivolves using the polisher wiping off then reapplying compound and polishing again. Then i will do the same process on the polishnig pad and polish, this will remove the swirls that cutting put into the paint and give you the shine then its just a simple wax to protect.
Can't really tell diff between pre/post Vogtland
Aii ano was looking at that this morning not the best of pictures, see if ive got anymore that are better, defintitely is lower the beating matt's brace has taken on the ocassional speed hump suggests that haha
Going to try update and add alot references this weekend.
ive even got the feeling there both lowered pictures haha I think its supposed to be with old plate and with new as the car looks just as polished in both photos.

Hmm...methinks I shall pass on lowering then s:) :) s:) Hardly going to take it to a track anyway
if i had a fl id says its not needed but with my pre i needed it its help me feel more in touch. I also hate hate the soft sidewalls on the toyo's i want lower profile.

Gotta inflate them quite high. But, tramlining is really minimal on the Toyos.
Got yoko advans now and tramlining is HORRIBLE! Much better wet grip though
running 29 front 36 back atm its the fronts that bother me, mind you i bet i get them again but ill try go 50 front 45 back.
Tom, I had a few issues with my Toyos when I first put them on, they felt soft and like they were rolling but after experimenting it turned out I'd over-inflated them. Dropped them down to 28/34 in the end and they feel planted now.
Shall give it a go a suspect you running slightly lower profiles, especially back with them fl wheels s:) :) s:) hoping to swap mine for fl ones next year if i can keep them mint.
ps think i may have put 29-35 this time did them Saturday.
Little Update, painting added, little things added, more references, if anyone wants any references ive missed let me know and ill add them.
Car looks a million times better after the hard work of detailing so precisely... Credit where it's due mate... One thing I'm not keen on (personal preference) is the silver calipers... Not sure what colour would look well with the anthracite wheels and blue body but overall the changes have made a great difference...
Much appreciate it buddy s:) :) s:)
To be honest the silver wasjust what i had lieing about, im certainly getting my use out of it as its gone on the suspension arms aswell haha
Cars coming along nicely only think thats letting it down is numberous tiny dints and scrapes that would need repsraying even in the last week someones scratched the rear bumper, but thats where i have to think do a draw the line.
so shiny and nice s:) :) s:) gives me motivation to sort the last few things on mine and give a a pre winter detail / clean. Always liked the blue and red ones, not that I am unhappy with my silver one the blue seems to shine so well
s:) :) s:) i had to have another blue one s:) :) s:) i did consider sable but blue popsssss s:) :) s:)
Parts haul s:) :) s:) (http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o184/tomaky/null_zpsa3873c7d.jpg) (http://s120.photobucket.com/user/tomaky/media/null_zpsa3873c7d.jpg.html)
Well since pay day and birthday ive bought Pre fl passenger HL, stereo surround, key hole covers, uv sealant, googone for where the glue was from previous owner bodgery, and its finally getting retracked this weekend! Going to fit everything listed this weekend and get back to sorting the rear suspension arms.
you need some of these tom m http://www.countryactivities.co.uk/acat ... k_dice.jpg (http://www.countryactivities.co.uk/acatalog/pink_dice.jpg) m
I will he sure to nic them ones out your car next meet s:) :) s:)
Little update, cars currently filthy! going to double wash and wax afterwards this friday for the xmas meet.

Claybar?
pondering it but then ill have to get the polisher out to remove any scratches the bar puts in, which i dont have time or the will power to do atm haha next planned polish is gunna be about march but i may however give it a very brisk run over.

I did it at start september aswell so shouldnt be too bad atm but itll get a good clean this is a bad one haven't cleaned it inside since i got it :O
Mahoosive update, what do people think of the wheel nuts?
Post ding day update.
That is somewhat of a big list fella!
hehe im pretty much through the initial list and some extra's but the bloody thing keeps growing haha quite happy considering pre mr2 ownership my mechanical skills were changing a corsa's discs and pads and fitting a cone filter to said corsa haha
Loads of work and looks like you've done it all to a good standard s:) :) s:)
Cheers buddy s:) :) s:)
Biggest mod so far!

£6.50? Is that delivered? s;) ;) s;)
No deliveries £700
Knew there'd be a catch.
Hehe hopefully they will be a more permanent fixture come new year. If which is a massive if I come to own them, I think I would only use them when required as I will still have stock wheels for long motorway driving etc then again Id prob get them on I'd not want to take them off.
Love the wheels and blue bolts myself s:) :) s:)
s:) :) s:) used to take a hell of alot for me to like anything other than stock but the performance improvement is massive and ive grown to love them. The owner better let me have them. Haha
Once there onTom they stay on.
Otherwise someone may come and "borrow" them whilst your not looking. s;) ;) s;)
Haha potentially s:) :) s:) need to put stock ones back on at some point s:( :( s:(
Massive update as i havent updated in about 6months s:) :) s:) Enjoy.
Might have update this tonight.
Eek haven't updated this in nearly a year!
Little sneak peak of goings on.

You killed your girlfriend in the garage and her blood ended up all over the engine?
She was surplus to requirement hehe
This is what happens when a conversation with Rich occurs and a hot finger on ebay!
Its changed a bit since then, now has the wiring loom on and the other bits are waiting for some gaskets.
There on there way s:) :) s:) the mani studs turn up?
More pictures needed!
Let me know when you down this way
Will do squire targeting next weekend. But it entails a really long friday. Got my apprentice awards at 6 they could finish anywhere between 9:15-10:30 depending on if i win anything. Then im going to drive down.
Haven't commented on this so thought I should! Looks great! Your right, with a lot of effort I think I should be able to bring mine up to hopefully looking presentable s:) :) s:) FL bumpers really do change the look
Hehe s:) :) s:) i do love the blue once polished its such a deep colour. At some point this thread will come back with a vengeance its just going to take a while. Put a offer in for a house on monday :O
Congrats mate! Fingers crossed it all goes through!! Then comes the fun part... s;) ;) s;)
Hoping to continue this story very soon! got a fair few mods to update and and some still to happen. Cars are coming home monday!!!!!
Right lets bring this mother trucker up to date! Will brief goings on then hopefully add more tonight and pictures.
SO what has been going on. Last may i took of a offer from a good friend and well known member of the community. I bought Nathan's Red JDL body kitted car, this car was fitted with a 06 engine with a thor racing turbo kit attached.
I set about my plans and brain storming and decided that the best solution for me was to fit the 06 turbo'd engine into blue.
The reasons behind this were:
As you will all be aware i like to track my 2, tracking a JDL body kitted masterpiece just doesn't work! i was not willing to take the risk on damaging it. So then came plans to do the swap which including swapping engine and turbo into blue and then fitting blue's engine into Red.
Richard (rbuckingham) then stepped forward to say that he would be willing to help with the swap. (Top Man)
In the meantime in June i picked up a sable, the justification behind that was that when we did the swap in august i wouldn't have be able to insure the turbo'd 2 until renewal of insurance at the end of November, so i needed a run about, drove a celica 1zz couldn't get out of it quick enough.
Anyway back onto blue. SO red was trailered down the country 305 miles. Engine removed then 2 weeks later or so i drove down in blue.
After very little sleep we set about the swap. got blues engine out got reds in. We started reconstruction around the car with Rich's 2 mates also helping. Some things went straight forward, however some did not s:( :( s:( We set about with the idea of completing the car in a weekend, but the first big hiccup was the sub frame as blues turned out to be swish cheese we went to swap reds in and all didnt go straight forward. then we had issues with the rear track arms being tired. At this point we accepted it wasn't going to be finished that weekend so, luckily i travelled down in convoy to Rich's I rang my mate who drove another 45mins out of his way to pick me up.
Couple of weeks later Rich said come back down, got the train down on Saturday to pick the car up, at which point we found more demons. Unfortunately the boomslang wiring harness was a complete mess it had been cut and shut more times than Jordan, the engine just wouldn't fire on the link. I tootled off back up north sent Rich the bits he then pain painstakingly rebuilt the boom slang he did a top job on it now looks alot better! Unfortunately the engine still wont fire on the link. at this point we called it a day, since then it was a case of getting the car home so that i could get a auto electrician onto it failing that it couldn't be sorted with link (ECU BRAND).
So 6 months later me and Mr SLoan drove down to Rich's to pick the red car and the blue car up, with blue hitched up. At this point another bloody issue blue's clifford alarm now isnt playing ball and the immobilser cannot be disabled sigh haha.
Got them both home now. dealt with a few issues on red tidied her up and she has now moved onto her new owner.
SO now ive to set about fettling the alarm on blue then its a case of attempting to deal with the link/wiring. Once that sorted ive refurbished a sub frame for that to go in, ive got a hand brake cable to fit, speaker, trd short shift. Then it will be off to the MOT'er.
But the further spanner in the work is that i may have got a little bit attached to the sable its one of the best mr2's ive owned if not the best. This weekend i fitted the home brew induction kit and fitted the sp12's.
I will document all this with as many pictures as possible this evening adding them to the first post.
I would like to say a massive thank you to the work and effort that Rich and his to pals put into the car it really is appreciated! Top man!

What makes the sable so special?
Put the Turbo in the Sable have it as the luxury car. Whack a 1zz in the blue, strip it down completely and enter into the MR2 Champsionship. Jobs a gooden s:) :) s:)
Oh and thanks Josh for turning up and helping!!! s:) :) s:)
Nothing really special about it, its just a spot on little car that has been looked after. Missed having a FL a think. The temptation is strong!
Toying with a few ideas:
Option 1: Get blue going sell sable.
Option 2: Get blue going and use as a track car keep sable.
Option 3: Get blue going Sell sable buy Is200 run blue as summer and lexus as winter.
Get blue running
F off the sable
Get a cheap runabout not a Lexus you flash *@#$!!!!!
The sable is a cheap little run about haha.
Quote from: "tomaky"The sable is a cheap little run about haha.
No good for runs to ikea and similar though.
Nice focus diesel is what you want.

Think I was more a hindrance than a help. But I managed to sit on my arse and pretend to push things with my leg s:lol:  s:lol:
I think keep blue and just pour your heart, soul and wallet into it. Sod messing about with two cars and they extra expense that comes with running two.
Will probably make the decision ones blue purs again is back on the road. There is a temptation with having the house to have a bigger second car. Beth might end up driving it who knows ha.
Thread revival!
Loom ordered! Times to redo the harness again for the second time doh! Hopefully make it so that its indestructible!
Hoping to get back into this now! Had a tough 1/3 of the year where i ended up taking golf on as my main hobby. Now looking to get back into the car!
Hows that they kicked you out the golf club girlie
I wish they had.
I am tired of hearing about it.
No but i see they kicked you out of the nut house ol boy.
At last some progress! s;) ;) s;)
Quote from: "s12vea"At last some progress! s;) ;) s;)
It wont last. It was probably raining too much to play golf.
Im at centre parcs s;) ;) s;) might order the solder iron now s:) :) s:)
Come on mate, it needs to be done.
I understand the love for golf but get that car sorted and bk in the road
Quote from: "tomaky"No but i see they kicked you out of the nut house ol boy.
On day release you lazy g--t. Tell me when your going to get back on yours and I will go out buy a car and turbo it see who finishes first. In fact race on next years birthday bash you need to be there in your turbo. I will be there in a turbo'd roadster or a mad 2zz cammed and mapped. Take the chalange here now so if you don't make it its open day on you boy!!!
Love ya really
Dave with his current rate of progress youll win hands down.
Lets see what he says but hes most likely playing golf badly again today
Dave you havent finished a project since 2001... Love you too babes s;) ;) s;)
Even if i finish i dont know if ill be able to insure it s:( :( s:(
Ha we will see. Get your finger out.
Solder irons on the way will get the wiring details printed off if i can find them again. Think im going to have to order another bloody link plug... £40 odd
If there is a decent amount of cable i may try salvage it.
You're worse than me with these delays.

The way he drives you are probably right.
Haha i might lose that argument Josh s;) ;) s;) solder iron being deivered today, just picked the harness and the loom up from the parents. Got a meeting tommorrow to discuss electrical activities in the plan with a leccy team leader in work haha
Will acquire heat shrink and solder tommorrow. The harnes block is in derby with my mates solder gear. He is getting that this weekend. The link plug has plenty of cable so thats going to be salvageable!
Might have sunday working on the car get the crank sensor swapped and fit the sub frame.
Hurry up mate s;) ;) s;)
Just been looking at my car insurance situation. Its not horrendously bad to me at least.

Have you got a multi car policy? What's the premium look like?
Naa its single car. Stock 2 650 modified 1070. Might have to do what i did last year.
Have you tried flux? I pay less than standard 2 for mine.

I think its a reasonable quote for has age.
And the fact he is WALLE.
Would probably cost more if he ever drove his 2s.
It is flux. How many miles you done this year in a 2 Simon?

I say. One Simon hath burneth one Thomas most admirably.
Ive had the car on the road since the end of November its done 6250. I think its fair to say i do more miles that 90% of owners ha. Milage has come down a bit tho this year. Single life means no naughty weekends away s;) ;) s;)
Single? Really? Careful.

TBH my interests changed when i became signal i had a stronger friend group golfing so that took over from the cars, i would finish work and go straight to the course basically every night. I did start a new job a couple of months ago which meant more time in work but it also means more money for goodies on the car. The Golf seasons basically over so its time to get this car done. I need to start enjoying it again, the only way to do that is get it going.
Well, apparently, the heaters are good in this car, so perhaps a set of winter tyres and roof down?
Quote from: "The Other Stu"Well, apparently, the heaters are good in this car, so perhaps a set of winter tyres and roof down?
Tom doesnt hold with winter tyres do you mate.
Likes to run R888 all year round.
Not for everyone mind, they have a few draw backs in the snow dont they mate.

Nah! Always a safe and sound choice. R888s for the world!
R888's best snow tyre ive had so far! I was genuinely impressed with the 888's snow performance!
R888 ftW!
Thinking a track day in the sable very soon to bring the love of cars back!
So i got the wiring diagram finished!
Had a look around the garage and starting notching a job list up in my head.
Unfortunately didn't get the hands dirty tonight. Spent a lot of the night dealing with a family issue sigh.
So reasonably productive night. Door lock swapped. Figured the aux belt out, however the ac comp is going have to come out to get to the crank sensor plug.
Cut the clifford out cleared the wire up there. Will pit the plastics back on.
swapped the speakers out for the ones i bought in the auction back in may. Put the door cards back on.
Cleaned the crap out of the car.
Tightened the jubilee on the oil return. Little worried about one of the sump studs where we couldn't get access to tighten the bolt, looks like there is oil coming out of it.
Went to pick my jack up on the way home my mate wasnt there sigh. Need to move the axel stands in order to swap the sub frame.
On a negative but inevitable problem, the callipers are seized on. Will get tother wheel off free them up. Remove them and give them all a good clean hopefully all will be well.
Hold on. You actually used something that you paid over the odds for from ding day?
I am yet to do that!
BTW, got to love seized calipers. s:-( :-( s:-(
First line of attack will be a big hammer then i may try moving then on the clutch got a feeling as they are itll be a battle removing them.
And no i them speaker adaptors wernt much good a dont think haha. I ended up cutting the stock speakers out of the mount.
That's more like it! s:lol:  s:lol:
Really bad night in the garage. Considering the whole project.
Chin up, think of the end picture not the current picture.
Get a link mapper to install and map if necessary that will be a big boost for you and the project.
Im putting serious consideration into scrapping the blue car, taking the bits off it and put them on the sable. Sable's engine is strong. The link works on the sable.
Cant get the middle susp arm into the sub-frame. Drivers side hb cable seized, slider bolt on drivers side rear caliper snapped. need new bolt and slider. Somewhere in your garage rich id imagine there is a hub nut as that doesn't appear to be on the car haha.
If the sub frame magically goes on and i get the parts ive just listed. i will leave the HB cable to a garage when it goes for mot. Oh and the engine fires up ill continue.
The sump oil return doesn't look screwed in enough theirs a little drip from it, to tighten it i have to loosen the hose back i imagine that involves oil ejaculating on my face.
if i could get into the garage i will have a look but it is very much rammed.
The oil sump return wasn't a perfect fitting it you remember i found a fitting lying around to allow us to screw in and make something to allow us to connect the pipe. there will be a little bit of oil but like a few drips. oil level in the sump should be below that point in the sump.
Oh another sump related issue, think its seeping a little but, dont know if you noticed but when the dipstick goes in and you pull it out it somehow ends up bent... not sure how hahaha
Could do with them 2 ratchets aswell ha using a little 1/2 incher last night ball to the ache haha.
Sub frames in the stubborn swine.
Sable tracked, tyres pumped up and cat heat shield removed its well gone and has been rattling for a good while not going to get chance to do the rear pads so apologies for any squealing.
Drive car and deal with any teething issues going forward.
s:lol:  s:lol: what a story. Love the part about finding a new friends group because we're not good enough.
Haha is was more what was easier play golf or attempt to fix a unfixable car hahaha
Could prob go on more but there are enough ramblings there.
Little update worked on the car the last 2 nights. Got the interior plastics done. Hb cables have freed a little need to re adjust at the scock cock scock pit end. Rear suspension torqued, needs alignment.
Harness as had all cables solder to block needs the splices doing.
Im getting close.
Keep it going!
Lots of great work going on here, keep it up!
It will be running by 2017, well done Tom
Lazy bugger get a move on.
I want this running by December 24th.
Hoping to hve the harness back monday/tuesday. If it runs i will put it in for a mot next week a think. There are a few issues to deal with. Done think many are MOT failures.
Will it wont it?

Good man. Go and have that beer now!
Few jobs tonight. Going to attempt to remove the stubborn bolt in the drive shaft. Hopefully succeed and relocate the DS. Drop the car and move it put the garage to move sable in. Sable going in early for its mot. Needs rear pads, front sidelight and a wiper blade. Then its a push on plastics and passenger interior re assembly. Then MoT if i fail on the drive shaft it will be trailered to the mot and ill let the garage deal with it.
New drive shaft required and front headlight. There en route for tommorow. Got new wheel nits coming for the sps aswell.
Hoping to damn bear wrap this up tommorow, me and another 2 idiots spanner ing away.
Stop talking about it and get it done.
And no poxy golf either.
7 hours of hungover spannering. Alot of good things got done. Change one drive shaft went to drive it out and the other ones fooked moral of the story never split a driveshaft. Fitted the passenger side one drove it out looks like it needs a new o seal so have order that. Basically good to go after that.

I knocked today on the head bud, thought it takes 15 mins to get the drive shaft back out. Will do that tommorow and stick it on 4 stands and clean the front disks off and bulbs sorted. Probably be out the garage wednesday.
Been consistently over doing it all recently, need the car on the road so i can have some bloody respite. Sorry HRH.
RESPITE
Rest bite!!! LMAO!!! U iz wel gud at Inglish innit Tom
I blame the horrendous hours going in, split between 10 hours work home to the garage work till 10 then home.
Trying to resist the temptation to go over tonight, just so i can recover abit.
Drive shaft seal in. Driveshaft and suspension back together, app disks clean. Car tidied inside. Washed car. Few teething issues dealt with. Headlights polished. Front bumper off fixed dimmer, fit new bulbs. MOT booked, insurance arranged for mot.
Sounds like good progress there Tom.
I am sure it will sail through the MOT!
Been a long hard road. I hope buddy s:) :) s:) yours going well?

New studs and nuts ordered for the turbo, the current ones are goosed.
Rebuilt the turbo up, dropped the exhaust off to have a new flexi welded in, removed all the charge cooler gear. Removed the pillar pod, that's basically scrap as are the gauges likely, due to incorrect fitting the gauges have taken on water, Removing the pod itself has met a similar demise due to fitting it was a nightmare to get out and hasn't lasted the journey. Started tracing back the engine bay additional sensors back into the the loom, swapped the braces back over to the sable for the third time. Next step dropped the suspension and remove the gb to get the clutch out. remobilise blue get her out of the garage then fit the chargecooler kit and under brace. then transfer the centre pod gauges to sable. that just leaves one weekend where i need to fit the sump/SW plate and oil pressure sensor, clutch and turbo back, oil in coolant in drive.
You make it sound so simple s;) ;) s;)
Hopefully you can then drive it
Its becoming simpler, i could def drop the susp blindfolded haha. Hopefully Before CMAS.if not between cmas and new year.
Not particularly looking forward to dropping the box if im honest.
Progress!
Think I will have to get mine done now. Just about to order a cross member from toyota for the silver car be rude not to slam the turbo on at the same time
well if you get your self up here al show you how to do it s;) ;) s;) tehe
I will come up in the turbo then fella with my Apexi plug and play ecu. Did I tell you you dont have to make the apexi fit the loom it plugs straight in?
Shame its a crap ecu tho...
Quote from: "tomaky"Shame its a crap ecu though...
Its not exactly state of the art it doesnt even have a map sensor but it does plug straight in.

Basically what your saying is i should have done it all myself ha oh well. Least i know how to fix many more things than when i started this project.
Back on topic the link is plug and play.
Removed all remaining turbo kit off blue today for the new owner.
Fitted the disks off blue to sable and the front pads. Rears replaced for new. Brakes miles better. My uj recently started to have play in it. Got blues off and got it all cleaned up, greased up and now working perfectly on the sable. Successful garage day.
Sounds like a productive spannering day fella. Good job. s:-D :-D s:-D

I've just got sick of meddling with cars a think, i dont have the time to do it anymore want to treat myself with something new and get back to enjoying driving. The thing with modified cars is there is more maintenance and more worries, i dont need the added stress.

A week in now with the new car, what a car it is! For those not aware ive bought a Porsche Cayman S.
The car feels so refined, the ride is very comfortable but you can feel the chassis is stiff. The engine pulls like a train. The interior and gizmos are also spot on.

All stems from the time/stress that i put into modifying MR2's, had a rough year really, made the decision to get something new to get back to enjoying driving. So here i am i guess. Still got mr2's not sure whats happening yet with them.
Lovely cars Tom, I'm sure you'll enjoy your old age well in it s;) ;) s;)
Cheers Nic. Its been a pleasure so far. Its a hell if a machine. Hows the new one, bar the wheel trim damage?
Was thinking it would be a 2 year car but it is looking like something i might keep. Hopefully job situations prosper to allow it to maybe become a 2nd car.
Very nice car! Enjoy. Make sure you keep an Mr2, 'cause you know they are a boomerang/ Hotel Cali car.
Looks great Tom, I would certainly like one of those as my 2nd car!
Cheers s:) :) s:) maybe one day it will become my second car. Need work to pay me more hehe.
Looks nice but don't mess with it gay lord
Aww babes s;) ;) s;) if i do anything its tarting it up condition wise, it may get an exhaust. had a great 150 mile trip yesterday in the car it was brilliant.
Car goes in for paint monday. As well as new phat bridgestones
So. Since the tyres and paint ive carried piling miles on it.
I always intended on getting it checked over by a specialist, i did this at the start of november, went in for a look over, minor service and a MOT. We found lots of little things that needed fixing. First it failed on emissions, this was due to missing 4 exhaust clamps making it run lean. Secondly it failed on hand brake. It appeared that the drivers side had seized up, that was sorted and new shoes. Then we threw 4 disk and pads at her. Next issue the shocks and springs fitted last jan hadnt been fitted correctly they were missing a spacer, all came out and went back in correctly. Final issue the passenger door window would drop upon opening the door but not go up without my invention.
Had that fixed.
Think thats pretty much it so far. Now those who know will know that i generally do it all myself, unfortunately due to the mr2 ive no space in the garage nor did i have the time. This being said there was a very large labour bill from the above. All is sorted now and she drives like a dream.
Thought some might be interested in this, or not.

Hey Tomaky welcome to the No Exhaust Clamp Club! I had a 03 and 53 facelift boxsters, the 03 one with full glass palace service history had NO clamps on the exhaust, the 53 one with 37k miles had 2 missing the remaining ones fell to bits when I touched them! I think they are made of Marzipan. Find a good independent specialist steer clear of the glass palaces. don't know where you live but I travelled from Wales to Wigan to let Cath Burrows look after my porkies shes good must be she has a 996 Ducati and a Pangale cheers greybeard.
Heard alot of good stuff abput Cath. I was thinking Darren King next.
Im in barrow so about hour and half NW of wigan. The car went to 9meister in warrigton in november. Work was good but labour cost nailed me. Wish id used Cath or Darren.
Someone has fitted some big black tips and just not replaced the clamps.
Hoping my next mod is either a carnewal exhaust or maybe a topgear valved system.
Hi Tomaky Cath Burrows is a few miles north of Wigan at Standish just off the M6 Big service on the porkie cost about £3oo she fitted a new Aux drive belt for about £17. have a look at her web site cheers greybeardgt.
Hoping to get exhaust on in the next 2 weeks.
Going to try get the blue mr2 rolling and get it out of the garage.
The new exhaust system.
Its now fit. I will add a video later on.

The MR2 is hopefully coming back on the road!!!!! Just got a quote to change my policy to multi car, £112 for the car with suspension mods and 4k mileage.
Plan now is to get some fresh high octane in it as its empty. Battery charged up. RUn the fuel and some cat cleaner through it as its always struggled in the MOT on emissions. Hoping with a run around the car park to clean the disks and pads will be enough to get the handbrake through the MOT. Hopefully it will pass the MOT if not ill have a to do list.
Then ill use it as my daily run about to take miles of the Porsche, the Porsche doesn't even get warm going to work and back it cant be good for it. Will be fun as well in the summer :)

Ran her tonight. 5 litres of jungle juice in with a a cocktail of wynns emissions (maybe I should fix the exhaust leak) tyres are pumped up. Thinking for the time being it'll maybe pass on the tyres. Warmed it up and it was ticking over at 2k had a friend cough cough pick it up and drop me 200 yards around the corner on private land cough went up and down about 20 times. Now ticks over as should. But the brakes need more cleaning.

I'm sure your not alluding to my vintage, so it must be to do with changing clutches.
Only ever replaced a clutch on two occassions, that was on the same car!

Guess I'm finally going to have deal with that cam cover. 99% certain it's leaking as the engine was rebuilt at some point. Clean oil Tho! (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190428/610fff85687947c28f6f2b8e58996d17.jpg)

Who knows, runs a dream. suppose i could take it out and clean it while im in there?
Just wondering if it's ineffective and the pressure is pushing past the gasket instead of venting through the valve as it should?

Nopeeee. Pcv seems fine. Swapped it anyway. Run out of time. Torque wrench is overkill and the min is 60nm. Need the one that Rich still has haha.

Oh by either leaking or potentially PCV it's used some oil which it barely used to do. Will top her up post re torquing gasket. If it carries on leaking ill replace the gasket. O ring has always leaked a smidge so I'll probably do that too as I've still got a O ring from Carolyn.

4 new tyres the other week for the winter, the R888's have gone, all were sitll legal aswell surprisingly. Looking to hide the Porsche away for the winter, its just passed its MOT with no advisories which is always nice. Ive been driving the MR2 during the week and trying to get the Porsche out for a hoon of a weekend.Think if i stick the Porsche in the bubble if i get out in the winter atleast ill actually use the MR2 as a sports car instead of a commuter.
Use that poor mr2 tuck the porker away for the winter
Think ive done about 1600 miles since MOT in Feb on the MR2, it'll be over 2k by the end of the month as its going to Sheffield. The bubble is rather expensive for the Porsche but it will be all around it.
Dare I ask which tyres you fitted
Summitomo, offspring of Falken.
Think it's time I gave the mr2 some TLC. Rear disks appear warped. I have a pair of disks that are near new. Just need to figure out if they are fronts or rears. Planning on swapping the gb fluid. Will probably swap the oil Aswell. Its not done many miles between oil swaps but it did sit for over a year.
Give the old girl some love

Careful now...
Another MOT Passed, sadly it failed at first. Had to swap the caliper on the rear (spares bin). Hand brake mechanism wasn't working at all, i do seem to have some what of a cable length issue, drivers side is much tighter than the passengers. The auto adjuster isnt making up for it sadly. The pig came out of its bubble, the power unit that keeps it inflated is being sent back to carcoon, while its out its getting driven. Some machine! Currently looking at houses with a garage so i cna properly tuck it away when required and work on the cars without having to drive to my parents. It will everything alot easier, im lucky that the house hold is 3 cars so there is always a spare while 1 is being worked on.
Mr2 poilished! Didn't go too deep into the paint. Just a tart up. Gear box oil and oil sat there. However HRHs fiat 500 is gunna take priority. The POS needs the sump replacing. Then I've gotta fix the fact it doesn't go into reverse. Sigh...

Sorry haven't been on very much been bladdy busy and haven't been doing much car related. Missed these comments. Both cars are still going stong 1 or 2 niggles but there only niggles.
Had a great result on car insurance! Last years mods declared with HRH on the Porsche was 710. The re quote was 730 so I challenged them and got to 640. Then I went on money supermarket. Got HRH on both mods declared same mileage. reduced both cars option excess to 0. Protected NCB on the Porsche Under 500 for both :O
Its not been a good week for the sable.

Fair enough
Don't think it would have made much difference this time around. It still would have failed on emissions, would they have told me? probably not. Would it have got through on the rust, potentially its been a minor for the last few years. Again would have failed on Hand brake as well as the PS pipes.
2 of the fails are subject to opinion, 1 being the rust and the 2nd being the degree of leakage on the PS. I did buy PS pipes tother week as said. I can fix everything but the rust I suppose. The cat is genuinely rattling :O its definitely only just started. Its a CAT I probably replaced in 2017ish time with a cats4less. Everything can in theory be fixed the only bit I cant do myself is the Rust. Now there is potential to refit under plastics and potentially cover it for the next MOT and take it elsewhere. is that the right thing to do? Not sure, this car only gets tootled to work and around the town, I get a little less interested in it being 100% as long as it drives straight & brakes properly then I can sleep easy.
This car is 2nd in line at the moment for fixing. HRH's Fiat is top of the pops as its potentially less work to get to a MOT. Hopefully my house move will go through soon and the MR2 will make it to the new garage and i will make up my mind. Im considering buying my dads A6 estate from him when he looks to update. This makes a lot more sense as a daily for me. Maybe it is the end of the little 2 i had hoped to get to 150k
You know my opinion mate.

The 2 alu crossover pipes & the 4 to the rads. Needed another connector pipe @ £20 after stripping those 6. Cost at a good & reasonable indy was £620 inc parts, labout & VAT. Quote from another indy was nearer £1200 & he wanted to do 14 pipes before he even saw the car.

Was thinking I'd need the mid to and the long ones. Going to speak to the lads tommorow and ring the recovery to get it towed.
So... Apparently a rubber cap of a engine mount nut had come off and lead to the front coolant pipe being rubbed through.
Now on the day before pick up I had a feeling we had a nasty noise from the engine. The lads haven't turned it over yet. I'm hoping it's a sticky lifter!
Fingers crossed buddy
Engines spot on it isn't making said noise. My best guess was as the car was parked on abit of a hill the front lifter wasn't quite getting all the oil it wanted. Pretty common problem that's not a problem. Asked them if they could throw the rear disks and pads on to save me a job. Just needs 4 tyres now for ding day.
That's better news bud!
Now get those tyres sorted
Aii need to go get her and get it booked in.

:) happy days there :)
looks like room to move inside for sure :)
is it tight going in with the door you have now ;D
keep the improvements coming and cant wait to see the garage finished before you start on the house ;D ;D ;D
erm, there is abit of room, the doors 2.4 and the cars about 2.1metres a think.
The end goal is to add another 3 metres to the width of the garage. Big double electric door! Already done me first car job, adjusted the valves as neither of them were completely closing now much quieter which im sure the neighbours appreciate it. You can actually jack on the floor tiles which is a result. Popped around the parents garage, there's still some MR2 parts there and more tools. Probably going to get another shelving unit. At some point ill get me engine stand back and start investigating in the turbo engine that went pop.
Scratch that the cars 1.8 without mirrors a think.
Ot uh I go to view potentially my new daily tomorrow poor MR2.
Just filled the boot of my new passion wagon with mr2 parts out of the parents garage 😂 even got a engine block in the front footwell.
Theres still a built engine to move tho 😩 need to get 2 big strong mates or a engine hoist.
Been busy in the garage. To boards up with thinks mounted. Got abit bored so threw some decoration up. Stews

I'm jealous
Ive not been having fun... id not driven the proka for 3 weeks as the weathers been awful, went to take it out and the cross over pipe on the rear brake caliper was leaking... Replaced the cross over, decided it was time for a brake flush. snapped 1 out of 8 pigging bleed nipples. had all sorts of fun with that, i am now going to have to heli coil it. The saga isn't over there. Its had new brake lines in the past and they work fine the fittings are cheap mild crap. I tared at the brake line into caliper fitting for a week throwing wd at it. finally took to it with a spanner and butane torch on Saturday an with about 1 fingers worth of force it rounded. Ended up removing it with stilsons, one the fitment moved sadly it took the pipe with it :( I've ordered a replacement oem pipe for £20. now my problem it the rest of the pipe is still attached to the hose and doesn't bleeding swearing sodding want to come apart.
This does shake my faith in porsche build quality tbh.
None of the above is Porsche build quality, the brake lines are aftermarket, TBH there copper pipe bent up.

So the Porka is now ready for MOT again!! bit of a interesting evening, i finally got my engine stand back from a friend and we brough t the stand and the turbo cars engine to the garage. Definitely found what blew on it...
When the Engine and turbo setup was in Nath's car they had issues at mapping and it wasnt holding the full 10psi. It sat at about 7. Making 200ps not 250ish. I think through the reinstall of that engine and turbo we fixed some of the issues.
I take full blame for it blowing, ill get that out early. I believed it would still be running the very safe 200ps. So i did proceed to give full beans! It would appear we might have made 2 much power.
Picture to follow from phone.
Send it till you bend it...
HOOORAAAA
This is a tough 1
The sable is gone...

It does bloody shift now! I've a potential issue from the clutch back that is winding me right up. May potentially have to take the engine and box out and send it off to be looked at 🤦♂️ or the diff.
what issue??
Got this issue sorted turned out to be prop needed greasing, it was driving me mental!
Car has been through another winters worth of upgrades! Excited for a another summer (when it comes) of motoring.
Winter upgrades include exhaust upgrade. This made a big difference pumping power from 186 to 204! LSD now thrown in. The remaining upgrades have been tarting it up, now pretty much all de chromed bar the headlights.
Windscreen/surround/roll bar and the soft top frame have been freshly powder coated black.
Carbon seats should be arriving any minute nice drop in weight. Also should get be a smidge lower and smidge back which is required.
