I bought an import box with LSD which I have on my car now but I found out my parts car has import running gear (engine definitely and probably box)
Understanding there are no markings that give the game away on the casing and I have no idea of the plate on either of the original cars) opening it up is going to be the only way.
Does anyone know the number of teeth on each gear / final drive so I can work it out or would the gears be stamped?
There's probably info somewhere but can't find it!
Considering upgrading the gears and diff going forward but no point stripping an import LSD box - Once identified, might as well sell it and put the money towards the gears.

Alternative is identify and assuming it's an import, keep it and just use it if mine goes

cheers

Is your donor car an import MK3 with a 1ZZ?
If so, look on the Chassis plate above the battery.  If it's an import there will be a line for 'Transaxle' followed by a number, which will end in an 'A' or a 'B'.  'A' has factory LSD, 'B' is open diff.
Ratios for that box are well known.

Hi Carolyn

I know the ratio's hence no need for all that but the shell is not an import.
The original turbo build (on here some years ago and I believe you made the return fuel rail for) was an import with rotten shell.
I've looked back over the posts and can't see the gearbox info for it though hence needing to open it to identify.

99% sure that the 4.3 final drive has 69 teeth.

If you do end up with spare jdm gearbox parts for sale please message me, im in the market for one.

Thanks.

I wouldnt start the 100th topic about Trannys and Diffs so will ask a question here.
My 2ZZ Spyder got already a very short geared 6-Speed MT in it(maybe a C64). But it has only an open Diff.

Now i could get a cheap SMT-Gearbox which looks like it has an LSD inside.
Are the Differentials in MT and SMT identical? There is a VIN-Code from the Car where it is from as well. Is there a way to find out for sure if it has an LSD fitted?
You can have a look here, it is a german website for privat sellers:

Thanks for help.

LSD was standard in the UK Roadster. The SMT has LSD; it's only the gearbox that's different.
