Title: 2zz kind of sounds odd?
Post by: WillM on February 29, 2024, 19:15
Hi guys, I'm new here (although not to mr2s), just bought my first MK3 which has a 2zz in and it sounds a bit odd, there's like a diesely noise at idle.

I've posted a link, any thoughts? It's alright when cold but when it's warm and I get home after a bit of a drive it's more noticeable. Oil is fine, new and gold looking.

Can you give it a few revs to circa 3K RPM and film that?

I can do but there's no noise at 3k :) I'll do it tomorrow just because why not

One thing you could do is pop the auxiliary belt off and see of the noise goes away.  Don't run it for more than a minute or two ;D

The 2ZZ can sound a bit tappety at idle. That on its own is not unusual.

Do you know if it is running uprated cams? Mine distinctly sounds more "top end" whenever I'm running that compared to OEM. Goes away as soon as revs go up.

However without hearing it.....
