I can only believe it is genuine.
Has all the right markings and it is made from quite heavy flexible plastic. The small fog light kit as well is exactly the same as in the instructions.

Quote from: SuperArt on February 11, 2022, 20:17The TTE bumper install has NOT gone smoothly so far.
I might be thick here by not knowing how to do a simple job like this, but there is no doubt the TTE bumper is actually thick.
I'm not kidding, the lip under the lights must be half an Inch thick the one which runs across the front secured by four screws is like 1cm thick. The bumper doesn't sit flat, it's very raised.

TTE Bumper top lip:

TTE Bumper lip (near lights):

What's even more confusing is the recessed vent/grille area fouls with the inside "gubbins" where the fog lights so it doesn't go far in enough.

Lastly, mystery tab. What is this even for?

Anyone know where I can get copy of the TTE bumper install manual?

So you are not running a crash bar? Did you also need to relocate the horns?

I took the new TTE side vents down to R2 Automotive for their guys to spray up and fit. They had just taken off the nasty fake carbon wrap stuff off the TTE rear grilles and found this crazy bodge by some previous owner.
The guy who sold it to me must've had a rear end shunt at some point.
Anyway, cracks aren't deep in the plastic but have to be sanded out before we go to paint.
Lots of work to do.

Should be finished this weekend!
Then I've got to work on the greasy bits before summer.
With any luck, I'll fall in love with it again so I don't have my customary yearly flirt with the idea of selling the Dodo towards the end of the year.

Some progress shots.
The front spats fitted terribly initially and there were some overhang issues to solve. After some mods they now fit perfectly and the overhang has been taken care of. Look almost factory finish.

Turns out the TTE grill isn't damaged at all. All the crazy cracks were just in the paint and boy were there many layers of it. For some reason the previous paint jobs were all awful and nobody had bothered to sad down to bare plastic before recolouring.

So today we have finished all the painting. Final polish will be done tomorrow and the car will be complete once more.
I have spoken to R2 and they insist the crash bar just will not work with this bumper even if we consider cutting some sections off.
Deeply uncomfortable with the prospect of operating any car which does not have the standard basic safety features from the factory so I'm very conflicted on this.
I'll likely drive it home and park up for a while until I figure out how to get a custom crash bar made up.
Either that, or I put the original bumper on with the crash bar and keep driving in safety.

On an unrelated note and perhaps moot point, still need to figure out how to wire up the TTE foglight kit to the FL wiring. R2 Automotive will know but my wallet is starting to hurt so I want to have a stab at it myself.
Lots of reading up to do.

In your driving career, how many times have you been in the situation where the car/object in front of you, has reversed into you?
Or, how many times have you driven in to the car or object in front of you?

I write this from the perspective of trying to ease your mental uncomfortableness.

To further alleviate the issue and your uncomfortableness. I am prepared to give you £1k, for your death trap 2. You know it makes sense
You can then put that towards a super safe SUV.

Call the midlife!

I'd be interested to know how it affects the handling as well, bearing in mind how much the chassis flexes when it's on axle stands with the crash bars off.
60% of the time it works everytime...

I wouldn't be comfortable without the crash bar.
Especially not this day and age when people seem to leave their sense at home and go out on their phone, speeding, not indicating and not sticking to their side of the road.

10 years ago... No problem.

I've seen custom
...neutiquam erro.

I took the same view with mine also taking into account it's not a daily and low mileage driven

Perhaps you could think about having one fabricated to fit the space you have?

Maybe worth chatting to Ropey Racing who make a rear one, to pick their brains about how they determined the strength needed?

I don't think they did, they've been called out on the strength side of it previously when all they say is "ours is stronger than original".
It's flat plate and small gauge tube and fairly straight, mainly there to mount their other accessories.
But for peace of mind, structural rigidity and to satisfy your insurance they might be able to make a front one, at a cost.

Ah, interesting. I was hoping for some engineering expertise!

I was not thinking of them doing it as there would be no commercial value for them as the front one is not one that people ever see like the rear, just hoping that they could give some pointers.

I was thinking about a local fabricator who could knock up something to suit and adjust it if/when needed.

IIRC there are two differing front crash bars for the 2 as I found out when I damaged mine.

My original on a 2003 was fairly thick but the one I replaced it with was about half as thick. May have had a couple of spacing brackets too (too long ago now).

Might that help?

You are absolutely dead on.
It would seem TTE designed their offerings right before the facelift with all it's changes was introduced.
R2 Automotive have confirmed I will likely need to convert the front crash structure to PFL. This is the way ahead.
@Bernie FYI.

Had a mini photoshoot with the Nex 7 today. I don't really know what I'm doing with a camera but the results seem to be ok with the point and shoot setting.

Here's how she sits today. She's come very far but there's still so much more to do.
The first job would be putting the JDM front badge back on methinks. Then I've got Nvy's TTE springs to install, TTE ARB to repair (had come off a wrecker), TRD braces to powdercoat and install.
The list is never ending.

I should perhaps know this, but the two tone seats. Were they an option at some point?

@ SuperArt, that does look VERY nice.

Say it with love, say it with flowers but never, never, say it in writing.

Looking through these images makes me appreciate so much the OEM design of the car and the accessories Toyota came up for this platform.
Everything seems to tie in so sweetly. Especially the bumper, it ties in the lines which run across the boot lid, hard top and bonnet.
If you look carefully you'll see the lines which on the bonnet are an inset element, become a raised element on the nose of the TTE bumper.
I think they were really trying to play off on their F1 involvement, this nose really gives me that F1 inspired feeling.

I'm over the moon right now.

Yes.
You had black or red leather as an upgrade from cloth offerings, but this bespoke leather interior programme was the highest cost interior option (according to ROC posts from circa 2006) made from a different leather stock.
The leather is very hardwearing and is extremely premium feeling.
I did not know this was a rare option at the time of buying the car, but this is the only reason why I purchased this particular car back in 2014. I felt that it was somewhat special.
I just got lucky.

Perhaps is leather, rather than the normal pleather of the FL.
