Update from me, all the flushing, soaking bores & 5w-40 oil made no difference!

I decided to replace my engine and i have a 62k late engine going in to my car in next couple of weeks.

Engine number confirms it is definitely a revised piston engine  ;D

New sump (was rather crusty), clutch, oils, coolant, water pump, plugs etc being fitted.

All aux belt stuff coming from old engine as replaced recently.

Keeping old engine for spares as it runs like a dream.

Hello all, I hope you're well.

Today on my drive home, the MR-S lost some power at a few intervals. Felt like it was running on 2 cylinders, and sounded like a lawnmower.

It straightened itself out for the most part (the power came back) and although nearly stalled at some lights, I managed to nurse it home.

Sticking the code reader and Torque Pro on it, I found P0174 had popped up.

I've done some reading online, and here - I have a few points to check, such as swapping the O2 sensors around to see if the code follows (as my MR-S only has the two), and I'll be cleaning the MAF.

If I have no joy, can anyone suggest some other places to look? I'm crap at finding vacuum leaks, but the PCV valve I replaced a few months back with a new one, and the O2 sensor on the left side I replaced last year. Does P0174 correspond with that left-side sensor?

Some data that may help:

Idle RPM: 666-705RPM
LTFT1: -18%
LTFT2: 27.3%
STFT2: 19.5%
Throttle position at idle: 13.33%
Vacuum (idle): -25.18in/HG
Coolant: 96°

so we're kind of up to date now, all the fun stuff anyway!

Still using the car as much as possible and really enjoying it, but there have been some downs as well as ups.

A neighbour reversed into the driver's side rear quarter just before the Nurburgring trip, that was repaired by his insurer thank goodness, with these cars being such low value you always wonder if you are going to end up with a write-off.

October 2024, I managed to spin off the A3 and into a ditch, no real harm done in terms of injuries, no other cars involved or anything like that, but we had to rebuild some of the suspension and there are some cosmetic witness marks in the front bumper.

Then came the real calamity, the gearbox had been making a bit of noise for a while, but still worked so I chose to have the fluid changed and keep running it for as long as possible. A new business venture means I don't have much ready cash at the moment, but then horror of horrors, we couldn't get the MOT done in March 2025 - the tester tried but his unit filled up with oil smoke...

So right now the car is with a breaker who is going to stick a facelift engine and 6sp box in it for me - painful as the bill will be I can't see myself falling out of love with the car so we will weather the storm!

to be continued after I get the car back - hopefully sooner but key aim is to be in time to join Stu Crann and co at carfest

Performance Related / Re: Big brake kit

Quote from: Beachbum957 on Yesterday at 11:49The only springs where the front is at 50% of the rear are published specs for Sportivo springs, both "standard" and sport, but the Sportivo suspension package uses stabilizer bars where the front bar is much stiffer than the rear compared to OEM or Whiteline.  Just a different way to balance roll rate.

I have the Sportivo combined with Whiteline in The stiffest setting front which is about on par with the kit.
Also have the much discussed roll center compensating dog bones fitted  ;)
ÁND an effing big rear wing upsettimg all of the above  :))
