Title: Connecting an Emerald HELP!
Post by: Spyder SC01 on March 8, 2014, 20:02
Hi guy's , I live in the Neteherlands and own a 2001 MR2. Last months I swapped a 2005 Corolla's 2ZZGE engine with in my car. Because the Corolla ecu gives me too much problems I like to put In an Emerald k6. Problem is to connect it to the original MR2 1zz-fe's loom. Does anybody has experience in hooking up an Emerald K6 in a MR2 with an 2ZZGE engine? Who has, or where can I get the connecting scheme, which wire of the original MR2 loom goes to which pin of the Emerald? Regards Spyder SC01

It fairly straight forward, you need to email Carl at emeraldm3d.co.uk they have a list of all the wires you need on the k6 to what part of the 2zz. Also they will have a base map for the ecu. The only thing I will say is I still have not  worked out how to get the ecu to feed the water temp gauge and you need to cut a wire at the power steering pump to keep it working.

Why not just use a Celica 190/T-Sport ECU?

Emerald k6 can be mapped so allowing you future performance upgrades without the ecu issues again. Also its a very good ecu, but im biased  s:lol:  s:lol:

Hello Richard,
Thanks for your reply. Not only I prefer the Emerald over a Celica one because of the updates, its easier to optimize the engine's performance and above all I need to control the supercharger aswell. The 2ZZGE  came out a Corolla TTE!  Can you plse check the adres of Carl, I tried to mail him but the address is probably not correct..

ok just to update this thread a bit i have traced back some of my wiring and i have got a spreadsheet together that should get most people on the way to wiring up there own emerald ECU.

However i will say it now that i do not accept responsibility if you follow it and it goes wrong, however it worked for me so unlikely to go wrong.

I only know the emerald at rover K series engines, and I even got some maps, but fortunately not for the MR2.

Emerald is good system to map it yourself if you got the time, but with the one I use to have I alway had problems with the cold start.

That issue i think is solved with the k6 as it has a full complete map just for cold start, also Dave gets the system to add more fuel. For me i cant knock it as it has made very good power and does everything i could want.

The Emerald ECU doesn't get mentioned often, are people still using this option? If so is it working OK?

Thanks

Can someone tell me whether it is possible to run a standalone such as the Emerald, whilst keeping the standard ECU to run OBD2, dashboard and the immobiliser etc. if necessary?

Immobilizer I would think not but it's not difficult or expensive to get an aftermarket one fitted.
Dash shouldn't be a problem one way or another emerald could potentially run it anyway some standalones can.
Don't know for sure but don't think odb2 would work. You wouldn't need it anyway you just plug a laptop into the emerald and it tells you everything.
Rbuckingham also had one and was very happy.
I think ecumaster emu is cheaper and more fully featured also adaptronic has been mentioned a few times lately.
