Can anyone tell me about this UK 2-din stereo fascia?

When you think you've seen it all...I've never seen this (top):


I've searched for a few hours and I haven't found too much about this particular piece.  It see it's formed to match the profile of an optional Sony 2-din stereo.  OK, but how does it attach?  Does it attach differently on the OEM Sony than it may on an aftermarket?  It would be nice to eliminate the amalgom of parts (spacers, trim rings) that are usually used on aftermarket 2-din stereos.

It attaches to the brackets holding the Sony head unit in position by means of four small self tapping screws. If using a double din aftermarket, it should fit as you can use the original hanging brackets to support the replacement head unit.
