You sir have a serious Recaro habit.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I had some new wheels fitted today, Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2. 7J x 15, ET38. The sit a little further out and are more flush with the arches due to the 7mm lower ET. This has also had the added benefit of increasing the track by 14mm per axle.

What do you guys think?

Exactly what I will get if I don't go for a set of Matt's SP wheels.
So In  other words they look the business.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Look great, really suit the car!

What tyres are you running?

Alex Knight

#56
Cheers guys, yes very happy thanks Gary.

I'm running Bridgestone Potenza RE002 Adrenalin F&R.

195/50/R15 Front

205/50/R15 Rear

I've reduced the stagger slightly from stock to slightly increase the propensity to oversteer. I like it that way.  s:wink:  s:wink:

Gave it a quick clean today in preparation for the trackday at Castle Combe tomorrow.

Also removed the front plate to maximise cooling on track.

Very slick, you can't beat black when it looks like that!
Another one won't hurt  .....

Had an awesome day today at Castle Combe!

The track started slightly damp (interesting), but then soon dried up in about half an hour. It stayed dry until about 3pm ish, and then rain stopped play for me as my tyres are borderline scary in the wet!  s:shock:  s:shock:

In the dry though, the car was simply amazing. I could carry unbelievable amounts of speed into corner entry, and could brake crazy late compared to most cars there.

The tyres (Bridgestone RE002) had bags of grip, I could really lean on them, and they would only start to wash a bit after at least 15 laps.

The overall dry balance was super, really neutral mid corner. Oversteer was available if you got too greedy with entry speed, and there was some (admittedly slightly ragged using an open diff ATM) power oversteer on demand at corner exit if you wanted too. What a great car. Showed a race spec EP3 a very comfortably clean pair of heels too.  s:D :D s:D

Some great pictures, really jealous I couldn't make it!

Sounds like the car performed really well...out of interest did you fit the sump before hand?

Alex Knight

#64
Yarp, fitted the sump about 10 days ago. Glad I did, it generated some serious lateral load!

Yes Steve, I was staggered to be honest, given the very modest 195 and 205 F&R tyre widths. I can only (so far) dream of what they are like with wider tyres and track focused suspension!   s:shock:  s:shock:

For the record, I kept a very close eye on water temps all day, as I haven't yet got round to fitting a different header tank. Temps stayed resolutely between 81 and 85 Deg C all day, with no fluctuations.

Intake temp stuck to pretty much 18 Deg C, with ambient around 14-16 Deg C. I have relocated my intake to behind the battery.

You too chap, thanks for that. I had a great day, and the car way outperformed my expectations.

You looked like you enjoyed yourself too.  s:wink:  s:wink:

So, I attended a TrackDay at Pembrey circuit, along with Paul1087's 2ZZ swapped car also last Saturday.

Again, the car didn't miss a single beat. Faultlessly reliable as usual, and zero overheating issues either, despite circa 25°C ambient temperatures. The MishiMoto rad is doing a good job so far.

The track is very high grip, which made for some fairly committed driving, which was big fun. The additional lateral load due to the high grip made me realise that I would like the car to have more (stiffer) resistance to roll, as I had a slight moment coming out of the Honda Curve (off camber, and bumpy exit) caused by the bumps upsetting the very highly loaded N/S/R tyre on exit and creating a rather large roll-oversteer moment. All ok though, and I gathered it up, but it forced me to change my line on subsequent laps to taking a later entry point, and a shallower exit to avoid the bumps.

Special mention to the brakes (EBC Yellowstuff all round - el-cheapo motor factor discs). They were immense. Brutal, yet repeatable and instant retardation from the limiter in 4th (110MPH) down to 25MPH. Every. Single. Time. Not once was I happy that I'd braked late enough at the end of the straight, and I thought I may have been beginning to take liberties. I wasn't even close to the limit, they really are that good!  s:D :D s:D

My rear tyres (Bridgestone RE002 all round) are now all but done for 2,500 miles after putting them on. The fronts are still on 6mm. They were put on at the same time!  s:shock:  s:shock:    s:shock:  s:shock:    s:shock:  s:shock:

Here are some pics of my car on the day:
